Cartonization software: The Numina Group’s advanced cartonization software combines cartonization logic and in-motion dimensional pick verification to improve the picking and packing process, reduce shipping costs, and drive a fast return on investment in order fulfillment technology.

The software includes an advanced algorithm to determine the optimal shipping carton size for an order. The software also works well as an audit tool to detect discrepancies in planned versus actual dimensions on outbound shipments, a common source of costly carrier chargebacks.

Numina’s cartonization software analyzes order data and calculates the optimal shipping carton size before orders are picked, making it possible for warehouse staff to pick directly into the final shipping carton rather than an interim picking tote.

The software can be integrated with an inline weighing and dimensioning system to verify expected carton size and weight as shipping cartons travel to the pack lines for document insertion, void fill, and taping. Plastic corrugated box: PlastiCorr is the first-ev-er plastic reusable corrugated box designed to work seamlessly with existing automated packaging lines, according to the reusable packaging manufacturer Orbis Corp.

PlastiCorr features Enfold technology, a joint design that ensures the box’s flaps return to a straight position after every use.

With PlastiCorr, clients can convert over from cardboard boxes to plastics with no change to pack count or pallet configurations. By design, PlastiCorr is dimensionally and structurally configured for use in today’s packaging lines and can be used in all types of low-, medium-, and high-speed lines, from manual to full high-speed automation, according to Orbis.

PlastiCorr boxes will last multiple cycles through a supply chain. Their all-plastic design features smooth sealed edges for increased safety, cleanliness, and ergonomics. The nonporous plastic is easy to clean, won’t absorb moisture or odors, and won’t create dust. PlastiCorr is 100-percent recyclable at the end of its service life, according to Orbis. Rugged mobile computer: The XG3-ER rugged mobile computer from Janam Technologies was built to survive the most challenging environments and offers long-range bar-code scanning. Designed for manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and warehouse applications, the new XG3-ER incorporates autofocus technology that results in a bar-code read range that is 30 percent greater than the range of competitive scanners, according to Janam Technologies.

This mobile computer is available with Intermec’s EX25 near/far bar-code 2-D imager. The imager is able to read 1-D and 2-D bar codes omnidirectionally at distances ranging from six inches to over 50 feet (15cm to 15m).

The XG3-ER provides accurate, motion-tolerant scanning when lighting conditions are dim or the bar codes are damaged, obscured, or placed on high shelving, the manufacturer says.

According to Janam Technologies, the gun-shaped rugged mobile computer is the lightest industrial-grade device in its class, weighing just under 22 ounces. It can survive multiple six-foot drops to concrete on all sides and is sealed to IP65 standards for use in wet and dirty environments.
