Rugged scanphone: Honeywell’s newest
scanphone, the Dolphin 60s, blends the capabilities of a consumer smartphone, a rugged
mobile computer, and a bar-code scanner.
The device serves as a cost-effective solution
for businesses of all sizes across industries
such as retail, field service, and direct store
delivery (DSD) where manual processes are
becoming a competitive disadvantage.
The pocket-sized rugged enterprise device
has been engineered to withstand four-foot
drops and more than 800 tumbles. To increase
data collection efficiency and accuracy, the
Dolphin 60s scanphone integrates one- and
two-dimensional scanning technology with
multiple data entry options, such as full
QWERTY and numeric keypads. Additionally,
the scanphone’s extended battery can last for
a typical worker’s full shift.
The Dolphin 60s incorporates phone and
data communication capabilities through
Wi-Fi or 3G WWAN connectivity. Users can
also deploy the device’s Bluetooth and GPS
technologies. (Honeywell, www.honey-wellaidc.com)
Packaging material: Automated Packaging
Systems has introduced three new materials
for its AirPouch FastWrap protective packaging system, which produces cellular cushioning wrap and air-filled tubes on demand. This
portable benchtop unit produces the material
as needed at the packing station.
The first new material is a 24-inch-wide
FastWrap material for wrapping and protecting extra-large products. The material
features a channel-filled honeycomb design,
which allows multidirectional wrapping and
improved product protection.
The second, AirPouch Fast Wrap Anti-Static
bubble on demand, is engineered to protect products that may be harmed by static
discharge, such as electrical and electronic
components.
The third, AirPouch FastWrap HD film,
provides strength and durability for demanding protective-packaging applications. This
high-performance wrapping material is suitable for heavy or fragile products with long
or irregular shipping cycles. (Automated

Pallet grip: Lantech is now making its Pallet Grip available as an optional feature
on its G Series stretch wrapper.
The Pallet Grip works by locking the load to the pallet with a film cable, preventing the load from sliding off the pallet during transportation. It is operated by
a mechanism inside the film-delivery system that rolls the bottom 3 to 4 inches of
film into a cable and attaches it just under the top boards of a pallet. This creates a
load-to-pallet bond, helping prevent damage to products.
The G Series stretch wrapper is designed for operations that wrap fewer than 20
pallets per day but still want a professional machine. (Lantech, www.lantech.com/)
