Compact scale: Mettler Toledo has introduced the ICS226 Compact Scale—a new
check-weighing scale that is portable, easy to
handle, and economically priced.
Designed and engineered for dry to light
washdown applications, the ICS226 is a continuation of the ICS4x9 and ICS6x9 product series.
The ICS226 scale is constructed of stainless steel and has a new keypad design. The
front-mounted display terminal can be converted to a back-mounted position or attached
to an optional column if a column version is
desired. The ICS226 features a large six-digit
backlit LCD display with graphic check-weighing indicator displays. The scale also has dual
removable carrying handles and a long-life
Ni-MH rechargeable battery, making the
ICS226 a fully portable and mobile scale for
operation anywhere in a facility.
The scale has an IP65/IP67 protection rating,
meaning that it is highly resistant to dust and
water. (Mettler Toledo, www.mt.com)
Risk management tool: The risk and insurance advisory firm Crystal & Co. is launching a
Web-based risk management tool to manage
supply chain risks. The new tool was developed
to address the political, regulatory, and operational risks that affect global sourcing. Users
enter data into the online platform, which
produces a financial model that quantifies the
potential revenue and earnings impact from a
supply chain disruption. This process provides
the underwriter with the information needed
to insure an organization’s supply chain risks.
The model helps users provide an alternative
to “all-risk” property insurance. All-risk property insurance programs are often assumed
to provide coverage for supply chain risks.
However, many companies find that all-risk
insurance is inadequate and provides little or no
coverage for catastrophic risks, which include
earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, and windstorms
or for sovereign/political risks such as strikes,
riots, civil commotion, terrorism, or war.
The Web-based tool leverages technology
to gather supplier, sourcing, and financial
information to quantify supply chain risk. The
tool was developed to provide insurance underwriters with an understanding of companies’
process flows, supplier resilience, inventory
redundancy, and business continuity plans in
order to clearly identify and assess supply chain
strengths and vulnerabilities. The system is cus-tomizable, enabling Crystal & Co.’s clients to
tailor the information to their sourcing practices and internal structures. (Crystal & Co., www.

Forklift warning light: Intella
Liftparts has introduced a new
version of its blue safety light,
which alerts pedestrians to oncoming forklift traffic. The light can
be attached to any brand lift
truck and shines a blue spot on
the floor alerting pedestrians of
approaching forklifts. The latest
model, #01291296, comes with an integrated wire harness, voltage support up
to 96VDC, and stainless hardware. The light now also has a 12-month guarantee.

Supply chain design software: Insight Inc., a developer of supply chain planning
solutions, has released a new version of its SAILS and Insight Enterprise Optimizer
(IEO) supply chain design software application. The latest version incorporates a
new supply chain simulation model, the Insight Scorekeeper.
The SAILS Scorekeeper can simulate a complete supply chain operation—
including procurement, manufacturing, and finished-goods distribution—at a daily
level of detail. It can model either the company’s current supply chain (its “
baseline”) or the result of any SAILS optimization exercise. According to Insight, the
Scorekeeper is able to perform this simulation even for very large supply chains.
The software can process individual customer orders at a ship-to-customer and
line-item level of detail, and it can prioritize customer orders.
Scorekeeper has many order processing options, including 12 policy choices for
handling stockouts, and it has detailed inventory control policy options. (Insight
