Courses are available for beginners as
well as experienced technicians looking for
continuing education. All courses are tailored to cover the industry-accepted standards and best practices recommended by
the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers). Trainees learn both theory and
application on actual installed equipment, not
simulators.
The Battery Academy features two instructors, Wayne Eaton and Mike Poetzel. Both
instructors bring real-life hands-on experience
into the classroom for the sharing of knowledge and industry best practices. Trainees
learn from their years of experience in the
power generation, power distribution, and
data center environments.
Class sizes are limited to 12 trainees in
order to optimize the learning experience.
Class enrollment is on a first registered/first
served basis. The academy is mobile—the
company can design a course tailored to your
company’s specific training needs and can
bring the custom training to your site. (Battery

Beer-keg storage: Order picking solutions
provider Unex Manufacturing has redesigned
its Keg-Flow storage system, an alternative to palletized beer keg storage. The
recent upgrade to the Keg-Flow system
includes the addition of
6-inch-high guards for the
24-inch-tall by 9-inch- and
11-inch-diameter kegs, to
give them more stability
on the racks. Unex developed common guardrails
on the tracks to save over
40 percent of the material
in a typical 8-foot-wide
bay compared with guards on both sides. A
high-end roller stop in the guardrail was also
added so that the keg does not tip over.
In addition, the tracks were designed to be
more versatile. The 11.75-inch-wide tracks
allow storage of eight kegs of 9- or 11-inch
diameters on a 96-inch-wide beam. The track
features a notched design, so it fits any type
of beam.
The company says the Keg-Flow consolidates floor space, reduces bending, and
improves stock rotation with first-in, first-out
storage. When the first keg is pulled for distribution, the next one slides in right behind it.
As each lane is labeled, mis-picks are reduced,
along with travel time for pickers. (Unex,
