Mobile sortation: Warehouse automation
specialist 6 River Systems (6RS) has unveiled
a mobile sortation solution called Mobile Sort,
saying the product enables warehouse operators to intelligently generate and fulfill batched
orders using 6RS’s robots, mobile sort stations, and cloud-based software enhanced with
machine learning.
Mobile Sort stations consist of smart kiosks,
mobile put-to-light walls with validation sensors that work with 6RS’s cloud-based software, and 6RS collaborative robots, called
“Chucks.” Chucks deliver empty totes to associates in active picking areas and provide directions on how to complete the picks. The totes
are then delivered to take-off points, where
they are sorted into orders using the Mobile
Sort stations.
Six River Systems’ Mobile Sort improves
throughput with a picking and sorting solution
that is mobile and flexible, helping operators
who are crunched for time, capital, and resources balance performance and cycle times, the
company says. ( 6 River Systems, 6river.com)
Vehicle restraint: Loading dock equipment
manufacturer Rite-Hite has introduced its newest vehicle restraint, the Dok-Lok SHR-5000.
The restraint uses a patented “shadow
hook,” which provides an additional layer of
safety when dealing with rear-impact guard
obstructions, the company says. The restraint
is also designed to secure traditional trailers
and intermodal container chassis. The universal design targets the evolving needs of the
loading dock as well as a rise in intermodal
container traffic.
The company has also released its Dok-Commander system, which integrates multiple
pieces of loading dock equipment into one centralized control unit. The product now includes
a real-time trailer presence monitor, called Lok-Vu, that provides a camera view of the exterior
vehicle restraint and also lets users see when
engagement with a trailer’s rear-impact guard
takes place. (Rite-Hite, www.ritehite.com)
Cube-mounted AS/RS: AutoStore has introduced its new Black Line cube-based automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS). The
Black Line is an updated version of AutoStore’s
23-year-old Red Line cube-based AS/RS, but
for high-throughput operations. A cube-based
AS/RS consists of a high-density storage system
that is basically a cube-shaped metal grid and
holds bins. Robot modules travel on top of that
grid and pick bins from it.
The Black Line can pick up to 650 bins per
hour in comparison with the Red Line, which
has a maximum throughput of 350 bins per hour. The Black Line robots are slim-
mer and pick up the bins within the central cavity of the robot, instead of carrying
them on top. This allows more room for the robots to pass one another. The robots
are also lighter and faster than those used on the Red Line and are powered by
BattPack lithium-ion batteries, which reduce the time needed for recharging.
AutoStore is also offering the new RelayPort workstation, where the operator
picks from the bins delivered by the robots. The new system uses tabs for buffering, enabling the robots to queue up a line of bins, which allows for higher
picking speeds. Companies will typically have five to 15 of these ports for picking.

Industrial printer: Honeywell has introduced a high-performance industrial
printer with integrated label verification and precision-printing features that are
designed to deliver error-free printing. The Honeywell PX940 industrial printer
features the industry’s first internal verification system, providing customers with
defect-free and accurate bar codes every time, the company says.
The PX940 can produce up to 10,000 labels per day and can support heavy-duty printing and high print quality in rugged environments. With standard features
such as Bluetooth and smart printing capability, the printer enables users to configure and fine-tune settings without the need for a host computer.
Label-making software for the PX940 can be downloaded from the Honeywell
Marketplace, an enterprise app store designed to provide businesses with direct
access to software and solutions.
The PX940 can connect to Honeywell Operational Intelligence, a cloud-based
software solution that tracks, manages, and optimizes devices—across all locations—throughout the operational lifecycle and the return-to-manufacturer
authorization process. (Honeywell, www.honeywell.com)
