PPG has acquired Vanex, Inc.,
Mount Vernon, IL. Founded in 1964,
privately-held Vanex is a supplier of
Plascron and Breakthrough brand
water-based industrial coatings for
use on metal, plastic and wood in
the structural steel, building systems, construction and fabricated
metals industries. Vanex operates
one manufacturing facility in Mount
Vernon and employs approximately
20 people.
PRIME LEATHER FINISHES,
3M FORM PARTNERSHIP
Milwaukee-based Prime Leather
Finishes Company has formed a
strategic alliance with 3M Company
to manufacture and market protective coatings for a variety of leather
products. These new products,
designed to protect shoes, furniture
and other leather goods from oil,
water and other liquid stains will
feature the Scotchgard Protector
brand and be made available to both
the leather goods manufacturer and
retail markets.
CARBON MOTORS
PARTNERS WITH BASF
Carbon Motors Corp. has chosen the
BASF Coatings as its partner for the
development of UV-cure film chemicals and processes to be used on the
thermoplastic exterior skin panels
of the Carbon E7 Law Enforcement
Patrol Vehicle, currently being
designed and engineered by Carbon
Motors. The E7 will be the first vehicle to use UV cure film technology
on the entire exterior surface.
Production of the Carbon Motors E7
Law Enforcement Patrol Vehicle is
expected to begin in the 2012 time-frame.

COATINGS FORM PARTNERSHIP
Microban International, Ltd., and
Absolute Coatings, Inc., maker of Last-n-Last brand floor coating products,
have partnered to introduce Last-n-Last floor coatings with Microban
antimicrobial product protection.
Microban antimicrobial product
protection is infused into the coating
during the manufacturing process
and works to inhibit the growth of
microbes, such as stain and odor
causing bacteria on the coating. The
24/7 protection will keep flooring
surfaces with Last-n-Last coatings
cleaner between cleanings. And
