EXCALIBUR LAUNCHES AQUA-THANE
Excalibur Paint & Coatings has
launched Aqua-Thane, a patent pending
2K waterborne acrylic polyurethane for
the heavy-duty industrial coatings sector. This environmentally friendly, low
VOC (less than 50 grams/liter) HAPS-free system achieves film build of four to
eight milliliters wet without foaming,
gassing or flow problems. Aqua - Thane
adheres to a wide variety of surfaces
including steel, aluminum, galvanized
metals (both electroplated and hot
dipped), and various stainless steel,
PVC and carbon/fiberglass composites.
For ferrous and non-ferrous substrate,
abrasive blasting is not required prior to
application.

The Z-Guard reinforced, silicone
walkway is a dispersion of silicone
rubber, organic hardeners, and quartz
aggregates. It is a one-part, ready-to-use material that can be applied to a

reacting with moisture in the air. It is
tack-free in one to two hours.

HIGH RELEASE COATINGS
Racine Flame Spray has launched
high release/non-stick coatings that
are applied over a thermally (
plasma) sprayed layer yielding durable
coatings with a wide range of surface textures. On the smoother end
of the scale, coatings are available
with an average roughness of
around 50 μin (1.25 μm) Ra. On the
opposite end, the roughness can be
around 1,000 μin ( 25 μin) when high
traction is required along with
release. These coatings have tough
silicone topcoats with excellent
release, over durable, wear resistant, metallized or ceramic basecoats
and are useful in a wide variety of

HEAT PROTECTION PASTE
Kimball Midwest’s environmentally
friendly Therma-Shield Heat Protection
Gel is now available in a protective
paste, with 2.5 times more heat reflective capability. Therma-Shield eliminates costly and time-consuming disassembly of valves and other components
as it protects materials by reducing the
transfer of heat during soldering, brazing, welding and open flame contact. It
can be applied to almost any surface or
material, and conforms to irregular
shapes and surfaces to provide total
coverage and protection. The new paste
formula also eliminates waste, as it can
be applied only where needed. Both
Therma-Shield Paste and Gel formulas
are non-flammable, non-toxic, non-cor-rosive and biodegradable.

Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings now offers its Opti-Check
Optically Active Pigments (OAP) in a variety of coatings products, allowing
tank lining applicators to check the coating instantly for pinholes, holidays and
other discontinuities and verify uniform coverage and proper film thickness.
A ‘civilian’ application developed from a Sherwin-Williams technology
supplied to the U.S. Navy, the fluorescing technology extends the service life of tank coatings by illuminating insufficient film thickness wherever it occurs through the use of a portable ultraviolet flashlight.
Pinholes, holidays and
improper film thickness
will contrast to the fluorescing coating. The
result is that pinholes as
small as 0.25 milliliters
can be identified and
repaired before a tank is
returned to service.
Proper film thickness and
uniform coverage can be
verified instantly. The
OAP technology works in
conjunction with an
ASTM E 2501-approved
ultraviolet light source.
Coatings utilizing the
OAP technology include Dura-Plate UHS Primer, Dura-Plate UHS Epoxy,
ExpressCote HCR Chemical Resistant Lining, Fast Clad ER Epoxy,
Macropoxy 646 PW, Nova-Plate UHS Primer and Phenicon HS Blue.
