business has earned recognition as a
“Partner-level” supplier for 2009 in
the John Deere Achieving Excellence
Program. The Partner-level status is
Deere & Company’s highest supplier
rating. PPG was selected for the honor
in recognition of its dedication to providing products and service of outstanding quality as well as its commitment to continuous improvement.
PPG supplies electrocoat, liquid
and powder coatings, as well as pretreatment chemicals to John Deere’s
operations in the U.S., Mexico, South
America, Europe, India and China.
Suppliers that participate in the
Achieving Excellence program are
evaluated annually in several key
performance categories, including
quality, cost management, delivery,
technical support and wavelength,
which is a measure of responsiveness. John Deere supply management created the program in 1991 to
provide a supplier evaluation and
feedback process that promotes continuous improvement.

North America has enhanced its web
site, www.basfrefinish.com, with a
new section devoted to Chip Foose
and the signature line of “Foose
Colors” he developed with BASF. The
new section is titled, “Color by
Foose—Paint by BASF,” and highlights the partnership between the
top customizer and BASF.
PROTECTIVE COATINGS GROUP
AND DEMILEC (USA) JOIN FORCES
Protective Coatings Group (PCG) and
Demilec (USA) have formed an
alliance dedicated to providing property constructors and owners with a
combined service that utilizes both
companies’ solutions to maximize
insulating values while preventing
mold growth throughout the building
envelope. The two companies intend to
expand the use of PCG’s flagship product FortiCel, along with several other
PCG mold preventative solutions
through Demilec USA’s nationwide
network of certified polyurethane
foam insulation contractors.
PPG, UK-BASED
DYNASYSTEMS SIGN DEAL
PPG has signed a deal to partner
with UK-based Dynasystems, a glob-
al supplier of blast and ballistic pro-
tective systems. This agreement
allows PPG and Dynasystems to
jointly engineer and market solu-
tions to serve the physical protection
market globally. By focusing on
physical asset protection from a
blast or ballistics event, PPG and
Dynasystems offer a solutions strat-
egy based on anticipated threat lev-
els. Combining products such as
PPG’s Mil-Tough Blast Resistant
Polyurea Coating and Dynasystem’s
DynaBlok protective walling system,
can help minimize identified threats
and increase survivability on new
and retrofit buildings, floors, walls,
guard towers, ammunition com-
pounds and other assets.
SPECIALTY CHEMICALS
MARKET SHRINKING
The global speciality chemicals mar-
ket is expected to shrink by approxi-
mately four percent to $451 billion in
2009, according to SRI Consulting’s
report, “Overview of the Specialty
Chemicals Industry.” According to
the report, the global specialty chem-
icals industry posted sales of $472
billion in 2008. Due to the current
economic conditions, the report said
