SBS Hot Melt Adhesive
U.S. 8,163,824 B2
Bostik, Inc. has been granted a patent for a hot
melt adhesive comprised of a blend of 5%-
40% weight of a styrene-butadiene-styrene
block copolymer, the styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer is a substantially linear
styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer
having a styrene content of 38%-50% by
weight and 0% diblock, and a melt flow index of 3 g/10 min to 11 g/10 min at 190°
C with a 5 kg weight, and a polydispersity
of 1.01-1.30, and has a weight average molecular weight of 100,000 or higher; 2%-
30% weight of an endblock resin wherein
the end-block resin has a softening point of
from 100˚ to 160° C; 20%-70% of a tackifier; 0%-25% weight of a compatible non-functionalized block copolymer 0%-30%
weight of an oil; and 0%-4% weight of an
antioxidant; wherein the tackifier is present
in an amount greater than the block copolymer and wherein the components total
100% by weight of the composition so that
the adhesive has a viscosity less than 10,000
cP at 325° F and a cold flow value equal to
or greater than 70% at 49° C after 48 hours.
Functional Surface Coating
U.S. 8,178,602 B2
Accelr8 Technology Corp. has been granted a patent for a packaged formulation for
preparing functionalized surface coatings
having low non-specific binding characteristics suitable for application to a substrate
comprised of an effective amount of active
component, an effective amount of a cross-linking component and an effective amount
of matrix forming component, whereby
the three components form an integrally
enmeshed matrix that provides a functionalized surface having low non-specific
binding characteristics; and instructions
to apply the components onto a substrate
surface.
BASF Patents Electrocoat
U.S. 8,192,603 B2
BASF Coatings GmbH has been granted a
patent for an aqueous coating composition
comprised of a metal oxide selected from
the group consisting of bismuth oxide, vanadium oxide, manganese oxide, cobalt
oxide, zinc oxide, strontium oxide, yttrium
oxide, molybdenum oxide, zirconium oxide, lanthanum oxide, oxides of the lanthanide series of elements and combinations
thereof and an electrodepositable binder,
the binder is comprised of resin(s) comprised of a phosphorous-containing group
in which X is a hydrogen, a monovalent
hydrocarbon or an oxygen atom having a
single covalent bond to the phosphorous
atom, and each oxygen atom has a covalent
bond to a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group,
an aryl group, an alkylaryl group, an ary-lalkyl group, or the resin or one of the resins, with the caveat that at least one oxygen
atom has a covalent bond to the resin or
one of the resins; a carboxylate group separated by from 2-4 carbons from an ester
group; and a tridentate amine ligand.
