though. Paints and coatings are set to become
smart and increasingly functionalized, evolving into high-tech surface coating materials
designed to meet extended demands defined
by global mega trends. Small carbon footprint,
emissions reduction, lightweight capability and
process consolidation all lead to sustainability,
but could well add to the complexity and cost.
This speech will discuss successful approaches
for dealing with the various requirements and
show how a global player in the coatings industry is turning challenges into opportunities.
The keynote speeches will be delivered on
Monday morning, March 18, before the first
congress sessions commence.

EC Award
The European Coatings Award for best congress presentation will be awarded during
the opening ceremony on March 18. The jury
will select the best congress presentation from
the papers submitted for the EC Congress.
The 2011 award was given to a team of scientists led by Marc Entenmann of Fraunhofer
Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and
Automation, Germany. CW
