PPG Launches ALK28-901 Topcoat
The commercial coatings group of
PPG Industries’ automotive refinish
business has introduced ALK28-901,
a factory-packaged 2.8 VOC (volatile
organic compound) alkyd enamel intended for general industrial use. The
new black topcoat is fast-drying and
suitable for trailers, metal fabrications,
castings, cabinets, machinery and
heavy equipment.
The topcoat has been designed as a
thin film build product requiring just one
or two coats. ALK28-901 can be applied
using conventional, HVLP (high-volume,
low-pressure), airless or air-assisted airless spray equipment and can be sprayed
with or without reduction.

PPG Introduces
D8115 Matte & D8117
Semi-Gloss Clearcoat
PPG Industries’ automotive refinish
business has expanded the PPG Global
Refinish System line with the addition of two new versatile, reduced-gloss
clearcoats, D8115 Matte and D8117
Semi-Gloss. The new clearcoats make
up the Matte Clearcoat System and are
formulated to allow a wide range of low
gloss finish levels.
D8115 Matte and D8117 Semi-Gloss clearcoats provide an extremely
uniform, low-gloss finish. They are
suitable for stand-alone use or in combination, with each other or with other
PPG products, to match OEM (
original equipment manufacturer) gloss
levels and to produce striking custom
finishes. In addition, they can be used
over rigid plastics without the need for
additional flex additives.
PPG matte clearcoats have long
been recognized by OEMs for delivering quality low-gloss finishes. That
continues with PPG’s D8115 Matte
and D8117 Semi-Gloss clearcoats,
which both have been approved by
Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Ford,
General Motors, Chrysler and other
OEMs for refinish use on their vehicles.
Master Bond Unveils EP62-
1, Two Part Epoxy
Master Bond EP62-1 is primarily used
as an adhesive, sealant or coating where
the epoxy will be exposed to very harsh
conditions. This two part epoxy features
thermal stability with a glass transition
temperature exceeding 170°C. EP62-1
has a long working life of 12 hours at ambient temperatures and a 100 to 10 mix
ratio by weight. This system features convenient color coding to facilitate uniform
mixing. The color of Part A is clear and
Part B is dark brown. It cures rapidly at
moderately elevated temperatures, with
schedules ranging from 4-6 hours at 60-
70°C to 10 minutes at 125°C.
This lower viscosity system is a capable electrical insulator with a volume
resistivity exceeding 1014 ohm-cm and a
dielectric constant of 3. 25 at 60 Hz. EP62-
1 delivers tensile shear strengths greater
than 2,300 psi and tensile strengths over
8,500 psi. It is a dimensionally stable epoxy that contains no solvents or diluents.
