“The Boys & Girls Clubs of
Delaware is grateful for PPG’s
commitment to supporting our
science, technology, engineering,
Krupanski, president and CEO, Boys &
Girls Clubs of Delaware. “These hands-on
learning opportunities will enhance our
members’ knowledge and skills related to
math, arts and science, ultimately increas-
ing their educational, career and profes-
sional opportunities in engineering- and
technology-related fields.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware
is part of a nationwide movement whose
mission is to inspire and enable all young
people, especially those who need the
clubs most, to realize their full potential
as productive, responsible and caring citi-
zens, and to prepare them for successful
careers. The PPG Foundation grant will
fund development of engaging and en-
riching educational programs that intro-
duce children to technology and network
skills, internet safety, robotics, electronics
and mechanical software.
“We recognize that the Boys & Girls
Clubs organization makes a difference in
the lives of thousands of youth in our community, and we’re happy that PPG and the
PPG Foundation can help them expand
and build more science, technology, engineering, art and math programs to engage
young people’s interest in these fields,” said
Neal Nicastro, PPG plant manager, Dover.
Sika Opens New Production
Plant in Australia
With the opening of a new production
plant in Bibra Lake near Perth, Sika is
paving the way for future growth in
Western Australia. The new site will
increase capacities for concrete admix-
tures and synthetic fibers, improve fin-
ished goods warehousing and logistics
and accommodate future mortar pro-
duction facilities.
The new Bibra Lake site will strengthen Sika’s presence on Australia’s west
coast and lay the foundations for further growth in this region. The facility
combines two existing plants and three
regional warehouses that had reached
the limit of their capacity.
Heinz Gisel, Regional manager Asia/
Pacific: “The new production and logis-
tic site on the Australian west coast will
allow us to optimize manufacturing pro-
cesses and logistics, capitalize on synergy
potential and increase production vol-
umes. By developing and expanding the
product portfolio, we are responding to
the strong demand from our customers
in Western Australia and consequently
implement our Strategy 2018.”
Over the last five years, Sika has ex-
perienced strong double-digit organic
growth in Australia. In addition two lo-
cal companies were acquired: Radmix
Resources in 2013 and CTA in 2015.
The latest project for which Sika will
supply product technologies is the CHF
1.5 billion State Government-funded
Forrestfield-Airport Link. The infrastruc-
ture project involves construction of a
new rail line, including two eight-kilome-
ter tunnels that will improve connections
to and from Perth Airport, the eastern
suburbs and regional centers. The new
plant in Western Australia puts Sika in
a strong position to support the railway
project by providing an extensive range
of concrete admixtures and waterproof-
ing technologies and technical service.
PPG Works With
HUMANITARIUM Science
Center in Poland to Sponsor
Interactive ‘Laboratory of
Colors’
PPG is sponsoring the new interactive “PPG Laboratory of Colors” at the
HUMANITARIUM science center in
Wroclaw, Poland. The permanent exhibit
is the first of many collaboration projects
planned by PPG and the science center, all
of which will aim to engage children and
nurture their interest in science and technology. PPG and its global grantmaking
program contributed $30,000 to bring
the hands-on exhibit to life.
The PPG Laboratory of Colors exhibit, which opened in April, uses various resources to help children explore
and understand the science behind color.
They can create 3D pictures with “puffy
paints” they make themselves, and learn
how to mix colors by combining virtual
paints on a screen and using them to paint
an animated room. A 3D rainbow also
helps children make the color connection
between water and sunlight diffraction.
“The HUMANITARIUM offers children a place to explore the world through
the lens of science,” said Andrzej Zygadlo,
PPG director, human resources, architectural coatings, Poland. “Its mission truly
complements PPG’s ongoing commitment
to invest in science and technology education. This is an ideal partnership that will
