“You don’t need to be an artist to create a masterpiece with
these products,” Tustin-Fuchs said,
Dulux Venetian Silk paint produces the
sensuous, silky, layered effect of Venetian
plaster yet is easy to apply and smooth to
the touch. Available in 40 striking, light-animating colours, it creates a distinctive
multi-toned and luminous finish that adds
unprecedented depth to walls, according to
Tustin-Fuchs. Applied in two steps, Dulux
Venetian Silk products require a coat of
specially-selected base colour to be painted
before two thin top coats of Dulux Venetian
Silk paint are applied creatively, in different directions, using an applicator or plastic
trowel. “The result is an original work of art
infused into the wall that brings an element
of style and class to any room,” he said.
Dulux Liquid Metal paint delivers sophisticated elegance to rooms by adding
lustrous shimmer to walls, trim and furniture. Available in 32 light-reflecting colours
infused with gold, silver, copper or bronze
undertones, the finish takes on a smooth
or mottled look depending on the application tool used. As with the Dulux Venetian
Silk line, Dulux Liquid Metal paint involves a two-step application process, requiring a coat of a specially-selected base
colour to be painted before two top coats
of Dulux Liquid Metal paint are applied.
“Reminiscent of a fluid, sparkling work of
art, this illuminating, durable, colour-rich
texture delivers the ultimate finishing touch
to any room,” Tustin-Fuchs said.

Valspar Introduces Fluropon
Extreme
Formulated to maintain a smooth finish from application to installation,
Fluropon Extreme is the newest addition
to Valspar’s 70 percent PVDF Fluropon
coating line. A smooth, hard coating,
Fluropon Extreme is the most durable
product Valspar offers within the architectural coil coating market, the company
stated. Tested to withstand the repetitive
sliding and surface-on-surface friction
that panels are subjected to when they
are fabricated, shipped and installed,
Fluropon Extreme offers resistance to
abrasion and marring while maintaining
the smooth finish that Fluropon customers expect.
After years of formulating and re-
search, Valspar has created a coating
proven to withstand the toughest proj-
ects. Using the basics of Tribology, or the
study of wear, Valspar was able to evalu-
ate the relative difference in the wear
resistance characteristics of a standard
PVDF coating against the new Fluropon
Extreme. Typically, coating manufac-
tures use the nickel or pencil test to ana-
lyze the level of damage the product can
resist. However, results vary based on
who is conducting the trial. Valspar took
the assessment for Fluropon Extreme
one step further, implementing a dam-
age-resistance test using a Micro Scratch
Tester instrument. Through a series of
rigged field tested customer trials, con-
firmed that in the face of a high pressure
damage event, Fluropon Extreme per-
forms significantly better than the stan-
dard PVDF product.
Designed to withstand the bending
endured during the fabrication, Fluropon
Extreme also maintains the unique benefits offered by the original coating line.
Axalta Launches New Self-
bonding Electrical Steel
Coating
Axalta Coating Systems has developed
a new one-component self-bonding
electrical steel varnish called Voltatex
1175W-1K. The new varnish offers longer shelf life and significantly improved
handling with the same technical performance as standard two-component systems, Axalta reported.
Self-bonding characteristics have become increasingly important in the production of high-quality magnetic cores
for stators and rotors. Self-bonding
products offer decisive manufacturing
benefits as they deliver precise and reproducible adhesion and ensure that the
varnish is not squeezed out of bonded
stacks. Self-bonding properties are therefore in high demand, particularly for the
production of wind-turbine generators,
but also in the manufacture of motors
for electric vehicles (EVs)and hybrid
electric vehicles (HEVs).
“Voltatex 1175W-1K provides users
with increased product reliability, more
efficient processing and very user-friendly
handling,” says Frank-Rainer Boehm,
global technology manager for Axalta’s
Energy Solutions business. “An effective
self-bonding one-component varnish
requires a highly-sensitive and well-
controlled crosslinking system to ensure
that the coating’s application, drying and
hardening all work well. Achieving that
has always been a challenge chemically.
Traditionally, it has taken advanced two-
component waterborne formulations to
deliver the required self-bonding perfor-
mance – until now.”
Voltatex 1175W-1K is supplied in 200
liter drums or 1000 liter containers. It
must be mixed with the Voltatex 1075K
catalyst in a varnish-to-catalyst weight
ratio of 90: 10, and offers a pot life of one
week at room temperature. CW
