PPG Helps Refurbish
Associació de Solidaritat i
Ajuda Veïnal Center with
Volunteers, Donated Paints
PPG recently helped to rejuvenate the
Associació de Solidaritat i Ajuda Veïnal
(ASAV) community center in Rubi,
Barcelona, Spain, with donated paint
and paint supplies as well as employees
who volunteered to fix and brighten the
center’s walls. Participating PPG employees work at the company’s Rubi facility
as well as nearby sites in Montcada and
Barberà del Vallès.
Paint supplies and about 200 liters
of DYRUP brand paints were donated
by the Barberà del Vallès site. Also,
nine PPG employees collaborated to
perform needed repairs and painting
at the center, where nonprofit organi-
zation ASAV offers support and work-
force training to individuals who are
trying to rebuild their lives.
“This was such a fulfilling project,”
said Cristina Soler, PPG human resources
director, Portugal and Spain. “At the end
of the day, we saw how our efforts and
PPG’s donations together helped to improve our community.”
Sherwin-Williams Adds
Embraer to QPL Product
Qualifications Listing
Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings
announced that its SKYscapes Basecoat-Clearcoat Polyurethane Enamel has
been added to the QPL (Qualified
Products List) for Embraer MEP 10-125
Specification – High Solids (H.S.) Type II
Polyurethane (Polyester) – for use on its
executive and commercial aircraft.
SKYscapes basecoat-clearcoat provides
superior appearance and durability and its
latest, patented technology is AMS 3095
certified. This complete paint system cures at
ambient temperature in half the time of other single-stage aerospace coatings systems.
Designed to meet demanding aviation
market needs, this innovative coating
system provides brighter, better hiding
colors than traditional paint systems and
its superior technology can actually cut
as much as 30 percent from OEM paint
process time.
“We are proud to be added to the
Embraer MEP 10-125 Specification,”
said Chip Mullins, Global Sales Manager
of Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings.
“We understand the coatings quality and
durability their upscale aviation products
demand, and look forward to providing
and servicing them with the best aircraft
finishes available.”
Meeting the highest in OEM standards
and qualifications, Sherwin-Williams
provides innovative aerospace coatings
designed to give all types of commercial,
military and general aviation aircraft lon-
ger-lasting coverage with increased dura-
bility. This gives aircraft more ‘in-service’
time and allows for longer periods be-
tween paint jobs.
BASF Opens New R&D Laboratories for Automotive Coatings
BASF is stepping up its regional research and development
(R&D) activities for automotive coatings in a new world-class
platform at the BASF Innovation Campus Asia Pacific in Shanghai, China. At these state-of-the-art coatings and coating resins
laboratories, the company’s R&D team is innovating to address
regional automotive customers’ growing demands for high-performance, quality and flexible coatings solutions with a lower
environmental impact.
“We anticipated early the growth potential of the automo-
tive industry in Asia, as well as the build up of R&D capacities of
our customers,” said Peter Fischer, Senior Vice President, Coat-
ings Solutions, Asia Pacific, BASF. “One key enabler for future
success is the globalization of our R&D landscape and to estab-
lish an organization to meet future market needs. That is what
we did. We target to increase our R&D personnel in Asia Pacific,
mostly in China.”
With high level of expertise and cutting-edge facilities, the
new laboratories focus on R&D activities for coating formula-
tions, resins, polymer synthesis, as well as coating applications
for spray-coats and electro-deposition coatings. Latest coating
application technologies also ensures that customer’s produc-
tion line conditions can be simulated, creating superior values
to customers.
In general, demand for sustainable and high-performance
coatings that reduce volatile organic compounds in the auto-
motive industry is on the rise. “We have built up significant R&D
resources at the Innovation Campus in Shanghai, where many
of our innovations are developed to benefit our customers. We
will further invest and come up with new solutions that address
growing demand of our customers for products that are sustain-
able, durable and esthetically pleasing,” added Rafael Bautista
Mester, Head of R&D and Technology Management, Coatings
Solutions Asia Pacific, BASF. “Bringing together our R&D talent,
we are working on global and regional projects that focus on
researching and developing new and improved products, ap-
plication and alternative technologies.”
