PPG has introduced SPECTRACRON SPM Series DTM (direct-to-metal) monocoat, a one-component coating that
helps prevent corrosion on heavy-duty,
transportation, agricultural and construction equipment.
Spectracron SPM coating represents
a significant technical advance because
it is engineered for direct application
to pretreated metal substrates while
providing corrosion resistance that is
comparable to traditional two-com-ponent primer-topcoat systems. The
proprietary high-solids, high-gloss formulation also enables Spectracron SPM
coating to be applied over pretreatment chemistries such as iron-phos-phate, zinc-phosphate and zirconium
at supplier-recommended weights.
Scott Laney, PPG product manager,
liquid coatings, said the ability to pro-
tect metal with a single-component
coating offers several benefits for origi-
nal equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
“Spectracron SPM coating can help
OEMs cut production space require-
ments, inventories and labor costs while
improving throughput by eliminating
the need to apply primer during the coat-
ing process.”
Laney added that flash times and cure
temperatures for Spectracron SPM coat-
ing are similar to those commonly asso-
ciated with current urethane topcoats,
eliminating concerns about fast wet-on-
wet application times and enabling the
coating to work without constraints on
existing paint lines.
PPG offers a comprehensive array
of electrocoat, pretreatment, liquid and
powder coatings products to manufacturers in numerous industries. In addition
to providing a broad range of industrial
coatings and a full spectrum of color
choices, PPG backs its products with
industry-leading technical expertise delivered through an international customer
support network, the company stated.
Axalta’s Powder Coatings
Expand with New
Architectural-grade Alesta
AR400 Champagne Metallic
Color
Axalta Coating Systems has announced the
expansion of its architectural-grade, AR400
powder coating palette, with the new Alesta
AR400 Champagne Metallic color. This addition offers powder coating customers even
more premium color options that are designed to have exceptional color quality and
weatherability, the company said.
AR400 Champagne Metallic is formulated to produce a smooth, metallic coverage with excellent abrasion and corrosion
resistant properties. The low volatile organic
compound product was created with sustainability in mind.
Axalta’s AR400 series including the
new Champagne Metallic coating meets
or exceeds the American Architectural
Manufacturers Association 2604 standard
for high performance organic coatings on
aluminum extrusions and panels. This new
coating is formulated for superior storage
stability and transfer efficiency; it also helps
create uniform coverage on parts to easily fill
in scratches and reduce excessive thickness.
AkzoNobel Launches
Aquasilk for China Wood
Coatings Market
Furniture makers in China can now
switch to using more eco-friendly coat-
ings after AkzoNobel developed a new
waterborne system to help them meet
stricter government standards and a shift
in consumer preferences. The launch of
Aquasilk – an innovative waterborne
anti-scuff coating with superior hard-
ness and excellent clarity – is designed
to make it easier for the Chinese furni-
ture industry to make the transition to
more sustainable waterborne coatings,
according to the company.
Currently only available in China,
the product contains substantially lower levels of volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) than the traditional solventborne systems they replace.
Sustainability is integral to
AkzoNobel’s global strategy, which is
underpinned by innovative products
such as Aquasilk. The first waterborne
coating to contain the company’s in-house resin, the product offers improved
clarity in both wet and dry conditions,
as well as superior hardness, when compared with traditional waterborne systems. It also contains no NMP or NEP
solvents, which are commonly used in
the industry.
Placing sustainability at the heart
of its R&D efforts, AkzoNobel aims to
increase its revenue from downstream
eco-premium solutions to 20 percent of
revenue by 2020, and has already exceeded 30 percent in China. This is part
of the company’s commitment to make
lives more liveable and inspiring while
also making its products and services as
sustainable as possible.
One of China’s largest furniture
manufacturers, Markor Furniture
International Co., has already experienced the benefits of AkzoNobel’s waterborne coating solutions.
“AkzoNobel’s range of waterborne
coatings deliver the highest standards of
color and protection, adding tremendous
value to our products and delighting our
customers, who demand quality,” said
Shaojun Gu, Markor’s general manager
of Base Manufacture.CW
