PPG Opens Automotive Refinish
Training Center in Argentina
PPG opened a new, 300-square- meter training center for automo- tive refinish professionals in Pillar,
Argentina, the company announced.
More than 300 technicians – from
Argentina, Chile and Uruguay – are expected to be trained annually at the
state-of-the-art facility, said Mark Silvey,
director of Corporate Communications.
One hundred professionals will receive training through the end of this
year, Silvey added.
They will learn about all of PPG’s
automotive refinish product lines, color
modules and application techniques, according to Silvey.
“The new training center strengthens
PPG’s commitment to developing the
workforce and automotive refinish in-
dustry of southern Latin America,” said
Fabrício Vieira, PPG commercial and
marketing director, automotive refinish,
southern Latin America region. “This
facility ensures PPG experts and refin-
ish technicians have access to the most
advanced tools and training, which ulti-
mately ensure customer satisfaction.”
Added Andres Nitti, PPG business
development supervisor, automotive re-
finish, Argentina: “The inauguration of
the training center in Argentina symbol-
izes PPG’s belief in the potential of Latin
America as a whole.
“With this strategic investment, we
are continuing our objective of raising the
level of the region’s refinish market even
further,” Nitti said.
British Coatings Federation:
Coatings Companies Report
Subdued Confidence as
Brexit Nears
The latest statistics from the British
Coatings Federation (BCF) show subdued
confidence in the UK coatings industry
with companies taking a more pessimistic
view on the outlook for paints, coatings
and printing inks sales in the remain-
der of 2017. The Federation’s Business
The BCF’s tri-annual Business
Confidence Survey canvasses coatings
companies on their opinions towards fu-
ture sales, employment and investment.
The survey’s lower confidence trend coin-
cides with findings from the UK chemical
industry supply chain Brexit survey,
where 76 percent said they viewed Brexit
as a risk rather than an opportunity.
Tom Bowtell, chief executive of the
BCF said: “our members are calling for
regulatory harmony – our recent survey
found that over 70 percent of companies said a separate UK chemical regulatory system would be bad for business.
Further findings revealed that without
access to the single market, 20 percent
will move their businesses from the UK.
The BCF is therefore calling on government to provide clarity as we get closer to
leaving the EU, and address in particular,
the future of trading arrangements for
our members’ products and alignment of
chemical regulations.”CW
