Picking cart: Newcastle Systems has unveiled its new pick-to-light picking cart. The cart holds everything needed to easily
pick and pack orders, the company says. Totes or cartons can
be staged in a variety of configurations on the cart, with light
displays set to match those locations. An onboard tablet connects to a warehouse management system (WMS) to direct order
selection. A printer on the cart prints the shipping label. Other
packing supplies can also ride on the cart to take packing directly
to where work needs to be done.
The cart offers generous space in a 24- by 48-inch footprint. A
24- by 72-inch cart is also available. (Newcastle Systems, www.

Horizontal carousel: SencorpWhite has added new features to its White brand horizontal carousel. The system is now
available with integrated inventory control software, bar-code
scanning, and a collaborative piece-picking robot featuring
Rethink Robotics’ Sawyer-model robotic arm.
The company’s horizontal carousels are automated storage
and retrieval systems consisting of a closed-loop horizontal track
holding carriers (bins). When activated, the bins rotate to bring
requested items to the operator. Benefits to using this system
include improved flexibility and efficiency for picking and fulfillment; high throughput, with picking rates of up to 950 lines per
operator per hour; high-density storage; easy integration; and
a return on investment in less than a year, the company says.

Picking software: Lucas Systems Inc. has added a
machine-learning component to its Dynamic Work Optimization
(DWO) suite, a tool used to optimize pick paths and workflows
in warehouses and distribution centers.
By bringing big data techniques to the warehouse, Lucas
Systems allows DC managers to use the DWO product to
find the optimal path for picking local batches and for travel
throughout the warehouse. Applying the machine-learning
branch of artificial intelligence (AI) to that challenge produces a
shorter, more efficient route than the sequential picking paths
dictated by most warehouse management systems and warehouse control systems, the company says. (Lucas Systems Inc.,

Vest for voice picking: Logistics solutions developer
Ehrhardt + Partner, which acquired Top-Vox Systems last year,
now offers a vest system for Lydia voice. While voice has always
been marketed as a hands-free, eyes-free technology, it now is
“heads-free” with this vest.
Workers often tire of wearing a headset. Now, they can
instead wear this vest that incorporates speakers and a microphone. Workers hear their instructions through the speakers and
interact with the system using the microphone. The vest comes in
safety yellow, with custom colors available. (Ehrhardt + Partner,
