High-speed bar-code printer: Toshiba America
Business Solutions has unveiled its large-format
thermal bar-code printer. The B-EX6 high-speed
(12-inches-per-second) printer delivers up to
six-inch labels for applications within manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics environments.
It is designed with new “Ribbon Save” technology that optimizes ribbon consumption while
reducing waste. If part of the label requires
no print, the ribbon stops and allows the label
to continue moving until further printing is
required. When labels use center-justified type,
leaving much of the six-inch label white, the
B-EX6 can use a three-inch ribbon instead of a
six-inch ribbon to help reduce waste.
A large-capacity ribbon (up to 800 meters)
lessens the need for frequent media replacement, and the B-EX6 printheads are backed
by a 3 million linear inch warranty. (Toshiba

Loading technology: Zebra Technologies
Corp. has launched SmartPack Trailer, a technology package that provides the transportation and logistics industry with real-time
operational visibility on the most efficient way
to load trailers while improving load quality,
staff training, and safety, the company says.
The product is designed for use by both freight
and parcel carriers, according to Zebra.
SmartPack uses a depth sensor and a visual
camera to capture operational data such as
load density, available trailer capacity, images
of loads in progress, and the number of packages scanned and loaded per hour. Dock managers can analyze the data to derive actionable
insights for personnel and maximize performance and profitability, Zebra says. (Zebra

Wireless battery charger: The wireless revolution has come to battery charging. Delta
Products’ innovative wireless charging system
for automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and
forklifts eliminates the need for costly cables
and connectors that are prone to damage. The
system includes a transformer with a primary
base plate on a floor or wall and a secondary
plate attached to the AGV or forklift. When
the vehicle approaches within one inch of the
charger, the energy transfer begins. When the
charge is complete, the forklift or AGV pulls
away, and the charger automatically shuts off.
Delta Products says the waterproof (IP65)
charger is over 93 percent efficient and is
usable with any battery type, including lithium ion, with CANbus communication. (Delta

WMS suite and AGV: Material handling equipment provider SSI Schaefer
Group has introduced the latest
upgrade to its WAMAS warehouse
management software (WMS) suite,
with changes designed to optimize
order fulfillment and labor management for either manual or fully automated warehouses. WAMAS version 5. 6. 1 helps save labor costs in fulfillment
by creating a consistent workflow throughout the day, avoiding the peaks and
slowdowns of traditional wave-based planning.
SSI Schaefer has also unveiled a mini-automated guided vehicle (AGV) called
the Weasel, which is designed to integrate easily into production with its small
footprint. Designed as an alternative to traditional conveyor systems, the vehicle is intended for long-distance transfers and can handle almost any transport
task with minimal implementation and operating costs, the company says. (SSI

Upgraded AS/RS: Murata Machinery USA Inc. has upgraded its Uni-Shuttle HP
automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS). The Uni-Shuttle HP features a
new and improved dual vertical lifter, which has made the machine quicker and
more efficient than ever before, the company says.
The AS/RS also features a high-speed shuttle vehicle that travels 21 feet per
second. The rear-hook transfer equipment on the vehicle enables variable load
handling. The shuttle vehicles travel independently on each level, improving
system efficiency and maintenance capability. (Murata Machinery USA, www.
