Walkie pallet truck: Yale Materials Handling Corp. has unveiled the MPB045VG walkie pallet truck, designed specifically for DSD (direct store delivery) applications. The truck features a mid-mounted retail delivery handle, moveable load backrest, load retention strap system, and lithium-ion battery power.

The retail delivery handle design offers complete command of the truck’s functionality with the handle in the full upright position via auxiliary traction control and lift/lower buttons. In this compact configuration, the truck can operate at creep speed for optimized maneuverability, visibility, and control in congested store aisles or trailers.

The moveable load backrest can be adjusted by operators through quick latch and pivot arms to handle multiple pallet types with a single fork configuration, streamlining processes for time-sensitive operations. The load retention strap system uses a single two-inch seatbelt style ratcheting and locking mechanism to keep a variety of load types, shapes, and sizes secure and stable through changing terrain.

The unit is powered by the only lithium-ion battery pack available from an OEM and certified under the UL 583 standard for industrial trucks, according to the company. The battery pack lasts up to five times longer than traditional lead-acid batteries and can be opportunity charged on the go in any 120-volt outlet. (Yale Materials Handling Corp., www.yale.com)

Roll lifter: Foster has introduced the Foster On-a-Roll Lifter Universal, its latest media-roll lifting device. The new Foster On-a-Roll Universal was designed specifically for AGFA Anapurna, Mira, Tauro, and Titan printers, as well as many roll-to-roll flatbed cutters such as those offered by Zund and Esko Kongsberg. With the device, printer operators can quickly and safely maneuver rolls as heavy as 660 pounds and as wide as 16 feet, 5 inches. On AGFA machines, the tray fits easily into the roll loading area. Multiple roll wedge settings enable the operator to position the roll precisely for loading and unloading.

The Foster On-a-Roll Lifter Universal can be quickly reconfigured by the operator, a feature that is particularly useful in shops using multiple brands and models of printers. (Foster Manufacturing, www.go-foster.com)

Shipping scales: Mettler Toledo has introduced a new line of shipping and postal scales, the BC scales. Bar-code scanners: Zebra Technologies has introduced the DS8100 series of handheld bar-code scanners. The DS8100 Series units combine the power of an 800 MHz microprocessor, a high-resolution megapixel sensor, and Zebra’s PRZM technology. With this unique combination of hardware and advanced algorithms, the scanners instantly capture the most problematic bar codes, including dense, poorly printed, crinkled, faded, distorted, and dirty or damaged labels as well as electronic bar codes on dimly lit displays.

The new units feature a scanning range of up to 24 inches, a high-resolution imaging sensor, and a bright “aiming spot” to boost operating speed. Multi-code data formatting provides the ability to capture multiple bar codes and transmit only those needed in the precise order required by the application. Rail tracking service: Freight tracking and visibility specialist FourKites has added rail/inter-modal freight tracking to its real-time freight visibility and orchestration platform. With this addition, shippers and third-party logistics service providers can gain enhanced visibility and control of the transportation lifecycle, the company says.
