Balemaster® balers
put more green in your pocket.
If you are not baling your waste now, or if you are baling manually, then
you’re spending too much time handling empty cardboard boxes. Balemaster®
balers can do the work for you. Balemaster® wide-mouth auto-ty balers send
money to your bottom line in many ways. Here are just two:
1. Conventional hand tying takes 7 to 10 minutes per bale. But Balemaster®
auto-ty balers process cardboard waste into a dense bale that is
automatically and securely tied in less than 30 seconds.
2. Balemaster® balers produce bales with the highest density per cubic foot.
So there’s more material per volume than any other baler. This reduces
annual baling wire costs and maximizes recycling revenue per load.
Balemaster® balers are engineered to save energy, improve efficiency, reduce
wire usage, and lower maintenance costs. Being green is good business. But
pocketing green is even better.
Don’t crunch the numbers any other way.

Lithium-ion forklift battery: BYD Motors Inc., which says it is the world’s largest
manufacturer of rechargeable batteries for consumer applications, has brought its
lithium-ion forklift battery technology to the North American forklift market. BYD,
which is based in China, provides its customers with an entire battery “ecosystem”
that includes the lift truck, battery, and charger. The company says it incorporates
proprietary iron phosphate-based technology into its equipment and designs the
forklifts and batteries specifically for each other to achieve the greatest benefit and
efficiency. (BYD Motors Inc., www.byd-forklifts.com)
AGV fork attachment: Dematic Egemin now
offers a straddle fork attachment for its E’gv
Compact automated guided vehicle (AGV). The
straddle changes the vehicle’s center of gravity, allowing it to move wider, heavier loads
and to make tighter turns. The fork attaches
to the E’gv Compact’s original tugger model.
The E’gv Compact is a smaller version of
Dematic Egemin’s full-sized automated guided
vehicle. The compact model generally works in
“shuttle style” operations, such as picking pallets off of one conveyor and moving them to
another conveyor or to a floor position.
“It slots in between our automated guided
carts and our full-sized AGVs,” explained Tom
Kaminski, vice president of mobile automa-
tion, at a press conference during the ProMat
2017 trade show in Chicago. “We found that
there was a gap to fill in the market.”
The E’gv Compact costs 50 to 60 percent
less than the full-sized AGV, making AGVs
now more economical for smaller customers,
Kaminski said. (Dematic Egemin, www.egem-

Autonomous vehicle: Driverless vehicle
developer Otto Motors, a division of Clearpath
Robotics Inc., has redesigned its Otto 100 self-
driving vehicle. The vehicle now features all-
metal construction to meet the rigors of indus-
trial environments and a two-inch integrated
lift for automated loading and unloading.
Otto Motors has also released a software
platform called Otto M. The software enables
Industry 4.0 capability and connects Otto
self-driving vehicles with the material flow in
a production line. The Otto M platform also
houses an intuitive route-mapping interface
for the vehicles and offers a standard appli-
cation programming interface (API) for inte-
gration with software like enterprise resource
planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution
systems (MES), helping to orchestrate complex
automation with existing enterprise software.
Otto has also introduced a Test Drive program, a plan to bring its vehicles to customer
facilities in order to demonstrate their ability in
the potential users’ DCs. (Otto Motors, www.

Storage lockers: Apex Supply Chain
Technologies LLC has introduced a full line
of lockers designed to safeguard valuable
equipment and improve efficiency by allowing
warehouse workers to keep track of their
equipment at all times. Workers use their ID
cards to gain access to their lockers and enter
a code to notify the system that the equipment has been turned in. (Apex Supply Chain
