The marine division of Rolls-Royce—yes, the luxury car company—is working with the government of Finland to develop and test autonomous seagoing vessels. These “smart ships” would be able to operate with reduced crews—or possibly no crew at all. (Ships would be controlled by someone on shore using a joystick.)
