Mobile data capture: Scandit, a developer of software-based bar-code scanning solutions
for smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices, has launched Scandit Flow, a mobile data
capture development platform that supports a wide variety of bar-code-scanning intensive
workflows across the supply chain, including proof of delivery, inventory management,
and asset management. Companies interested in trying Scandit Flow can sign up for a free
30-day trial.
Scandit Flow makes it easy to migrate data capture solutions from expensive dedicated
hardware scanners and outdated Windows CE devices to the latest iOS and Android devices, while significantly reducing the upfront investment in hardware and software.
Flow allows customers to build, deploy, run, and manage mobile applications faster by
providing out-of-the-box scanning workflows and prebuilt solution accelerators built with
supply chain operations in mind. Customers can also run and deploy their own HTML and
JavaScript to enable custom workflows and integrate with existing IT systems, thereby leveraging modules for bar-code scanning, signature capture, image storage, offline databases,
and native maps. (Scandit, www.scandit.com/products/flow)
Supply chain orchestrator program: Third-party logistics service provider Damco has
introduced its new Supply Chain Orchestrator program. This control tower solution enables
companies to improve overall supply chain visibility, performance, and optimization.
Damco’s Supply Chain Orchestrator provides a single coordination point, integrating,
validating, and distributing data across supply chain partners. The Damco system fully
integrates fourth-party logistics provision (4PL) with predictive and analytical techniques,
allowing teams to detect and respond to events before they affect performance.
The program is based on a three-step approach so companies can evolve from gaining
end-to-end visibility, through enhancing day-to-day supplier performance, to finally optimizing the complete supply chain across all providers.
The Damco Supply Chain Orchestrator dashboard provides the one-stop transparency
needed to manage the whole end-to-end supply chain regardless of provider, the company
says. Shipment-related KPIs (key performance indicators) and other performance metrics are
instantly available, with automated exception alerts highlighting issues that could affect the
business. (Damco, www.damco.com/orchestrator)
Dock scheduling solution: C3 Solutions has introduced C3 Yard, the newest component
of its SaaS logistics optimization product suite, C3 Hub.
C3 Yard is offered in conjunction with C3’s best-of-breed dock appointment scheduling
module (C3 Reservations). With this latest expansion, C3 Hub’s product suite now provides
a single, powerful, and flexible solution that allows companies of all sizes to manage their
entire logistics lifecycle. (C3 Solutions, www.c3solutions.com)
Automated wrapping system: A new, fully automated
orbital wrapping system from Tab Industries LLC automatically
and continuously wraps palletized loads to their pallets to
create secure, stable unitized loads that remain intact during
handling and transport. Unveiled at Fabtech in November, the
Perfect Storm model features technology that automatically
senses the presence of a pallet load, then automatically wraps
plastic stretch film 360 degrees around and under both the
pallet and its load. The Perfect Storm includes an integrated
powered conveyor to stage and automatically feed the palletized loads into the wrapping
ring and to discharge them wrapped and ready for warehousing and transportation.
Developed to increase speed and improve efficiency in packaging and material handling,
the Perfect Storm wraps common pallet loads in 15 seconds versus the 60 seconds or
more needed for horizontal turntable wrappers, and requires only a single operator.
The orbital wrapping system accommodates pallet loads of virtually unlimited lengths
and includes a PLC controller with selections based on the size of the pallet, number
of wraps, and locations of wraps on the pallet load to customize wrapping to the
cargo’s weight, shape, dimensions, and other characteristics. (Tab Industries LLC, www.
