Six picks: Exel offers a new multi-client distribution and fulfillment center network that
provides customers in the technology and aerospace sectors with a scalable and flexible supply chain solution. The six-location network includes facilities in Chicago,
Columbus, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Memphis that enable businesses to place
material and finished-product inventory closer to customers’ consumption points.
With six shared-use facilities around the country, the network allows customers to
react quickly to market shifts, changes in inventory levels, and seasonal demands. By
locating products closer to end-users, Exel helps its customers achieve more timely
deliveries, reduce transportation costs, and cut lead times. (Exel, www.exel.com)
Righting the ship: ADSI, a systems integrator
specializing in distribution and wireless
automation solutions, has incorporated three
new key cost-saving features into its multi-carrier shipping solution, ADSI Shipper. All features
are fully integrated into the software, providing
speed, accuracy, and cost savings.
The first feature is automatic updates for UPS
fuel surcharges. With fuel prices constantly fluctuating, companies are not able to adjust quickly to take advantage of falling prices. With ADSI
Shipper’s automatic fuel surcharge updates, the
multi-carrier shipping solution updates the rates
as soon as UPS releases the adjustments.
The second feature is automatic identification for residential or commercial addresses.
Companies continue to lose revenue because
they are unable to accurately determine
whether an address is a home or a business.
The built-in intelligence in ADSI Shipper allows
companies to schedule routes more efficiently
and realize the actual revenue without taking a
loss due to inaccurate shipping rates.
And third, ADSI has fully integrated the AES
for companies shipping internationally. The
paper SED has been replaced with the electronic filing of AES, which involves a time-consuming online filing process. ADSI recognizes
the significance of AES for its customers and
has completely automated the process, eliminating filing errors that can result in costly fines.

Warming to the idea: The Autotherm Division
of Enthal Systems offers its Autotherm No Idle
Vehicle Interior Heating System. This non fuel-burning, non-emitting, and maintenance-free
vehicle interior heating system is available both
as an aftermarket retrofit solution for existing
vehicles and as a factory option on new medi-um-duty trucks. Once turned on by the driver
at the beginning of the heating season, the
Autotherm system operates automatically each
time the driver turns the ignition off. The driver
can leave the vehicle safely locked and return
hours later to a warm interior, with an exterior
free of snow and ice.
The Autotherm system consists of three main
components that weigh less than five pounds
and occupy under 1/4 of a cubic foot in total
volume. The system requires no periodic maintenance and can easily be installed in under
three hours on any 12-volt negative ground
vehicle that has a water-cooled traction engine.
The Autotherm system works by powering
the vehicle’s existing heater when the engine is
off. This enables the heater to recover the
stored waste energy previously generated and
paid for when the vehicle was being driven.
