Highly rated: SMC , a provider of transportation data services and
3
technology tools, has updated the data within its CzarLite family of
LTL base rate and benchmarking products.
Unlike individual carriers’ base pricing systems, CzarLite’s aggregated model offers a market-based price list derived from studies
of LTL pricing on an industrywide basis. This system for developing
base information supports the macroeconomic issues of LTL carriers without yielding to the micro operating and marketing issues of
any individual carrier.
The latest CzarLite product update reflects the overall economic
impact of rising expenses to transport freight, as well as recent changes
within the U.S. Postal Service ZIP-code system and the Canadian and
Mexican postal code systems. Consistent with prior updates, CzarLite
base rate adjustments do not include the impact of fuel prices, which
are in a constant state of flux and are addressed separately and individually by the carriers. (SMC , (800) 845-8090, www.smc3.com)

Spray away: Long-haul and regional truckers that use the
Michelin XZA3 truck tire can now increase safety on the highway using the Antisplash deflector on both of the tire’s sidewalls. The new Michelin XZA3 Antisplash tire helps make
highways safer by reducing the splash trajectory of water
spraying from the tires by more than 50 percent compared
with standard truck tires. Lower splash trajectory means less
water on windshields, improving overall visibility in heavy rain
for oncoming and overtaking motorists, as well as truck drivers.
The Antisplash feature was first introduced in November
2006 on the XZA2 Antisplash tire. Unlike the XZA2 Antisplash tire,
which had the feature on only one side, the new tire features the
Antisplash deflector on both of the tire’s sidewalls. The new tire is
directional to half life, allowing for tire rotation later in life. The
XZA3 Antisplash tire is available in the popular 275/80R22.5 LRH
size. (Michelin North America, www.michelintruck.com)
