CubiScan 125: Quantronix has introduced
CubiScan 125, a small, static cubing system
that uses a combination of sensing technologies to measure and weigh irregular-shaped parts and components as
well as boxed and case-pack
items. Small parts and non-cuboidal items are measured
using infrared sensing technology, while larger boxes
and cases are measured with
ultrasonic sensors.
The CubiScan 125 automates the collection of dimensional
data for slotting, storage-space selection, carton selection,
repacking, check-weighing, and shipment manifesting. It has an
integrated control panel and display, and outputs to a user-sup-plied PC.
The system comes with proprietary interface software, called
Qbit, that allows for menu-driven operator control, data stor-age/transfer, and diagnostics. Options include a mobile cart and
accessories such as portable power supplies, handheld bar-code
scanners, and label printers. With these additions, users can create a completely mobile cubing, weighing, and identification
work station. (Quantronix, www.cubiscan.com)
RapidPick goods-to-person system: Dematic is introducing
RapidPick, a new high-capacity, goods-to-person order-fulfill-ment system that brings split-case items to an operator and
enables pick rates of up to 1,000 items per hour.
RapidPick brings containers of items from a staging or storage
area, such as the Dematic Multishuttle, to a work station, where
an operator can then pick items from the staging or storage container into an order container. The RapidPick work station
accommodates totes and/or cartons of different sizes and facilitates picking directly into the shipping container. The operator
stays in one place while items are delivered to the pick station in
precise sequence, with heavy items first, fragile items last, or
whatever sequence is required. The operator receives instructions
on how many of what types of items to pick from an operator
interface screen.
The system helps improve picking efficiency by eliminating the
need for operators to travel to a dedicated SKU pick face as well
as the need for slotting and re-slotting. It takes less than one second for one tote to replace another, meaning the operator does
not have to wait for a new SKU. RapidPick also allows high pick
accuracy, as only one SKU is presented to the operator at a time.
