Shipping portal: 3Gtms Inc., a provider of Tier
1 transportation management software (TMS),
has released Quick Ship Portal, part of a suite
of solutions designed to enhance and expand
customers’ assumptions about how straightforward and intuitive a Tier 1 TMS can be.
The Quick Ship Portal builds on 3Gtms’s
Tier 1 TMS to give third-party logistics service providers more options and flexibility for
engaging their customers while keeping the
user experience intuitive. The portal’s features
include access to quote requests, shipment
tracking, and exception searches; simple, clean
screens that require no set-up or configuration
to use; screens that can be customized according to a customer’s specific workflow and
requirements; and a mapping screen showing
shipment from origin to destination. (3Gtms,

Tire pressure monitoring system: Pressure
Systems International (P.S.I.) has introduced
TireView, a tire pressure monitoring system
designed for the commercial vehicle market.
The first phase of the TireView launch will
include a standalone solution for the truck and
tractor market. This will be followed by solutions for trailers as an enhancement for P.S.I.’s
automatic tire inflation system for trailers or as
a standalone unit.
In addition, TireView will offer a solution to
common sensor management challenges with
an optional flow-thru kit. The flow-thru kit
enables the sensors to remain mounted to the
axle during routine tire maintenance while still
providing damage protection and theft resistance. (Pressure Systems International, www.

Battery sensor: Access Control Group has
introduced Smartie, a Bluetooth-enabled battery sensor for the electric asset industry. To
date, traditional battery monitoring methods
have been expensive and have offered limited
connectivity options that do not match modern
operating processes, the company says. By
developing Smartie, Access aims to help organizations maximize their battery investment
with an affordable wireless solution that can
be universally applied to any lead-acid battery.
According to the company, Smartie is a
smart sensor that can accurately measure battery water levels and temperature in real time.
All battery data is transmitted via Bluetooth
technology and displayed on the Smartie application as actionable time-stamped reports on a
tablet or mobile device. (Access Control Group,

Bar-code scan engines: Honeywell has
introduced the N670X and N3601 series 2-D
bar-code scan engines to help improve the
data-capture performance of compact and
lightweight mobile devices like handheld computers, tablets, and wearable scanners.
The N670XSR ultra-slim 2-D imager is designed for use in transportation and
logistics, distribution centers, and healthcare environments and has a 40-percent
greater read range compared with previous models. According to Honeywell, the
imager can read bar codes—and even damaged labels—from up to 31. 5 inches
away, which can help workers to capture bar-code data ergonomically without
having to bend down. It can also read bar codes at a motion tolerance of up to six
meters per second, allowing it to read multiple bar codes while in motion.
The N3601 series improves distance readability by 80 percent compared with
previous Honeywell models, the company says. The new scan engine is designed
for handheld devices used by retail, mobile payment, and field service workers.
It offers a slim design, which translates into smaller, less bulky handheld devices.
Both scan engines simplify the reading of higher-resolution codes, while the
white LED illumination system enhances image capture results and readability of
colored bar codes. Users will benefit from the engine’s more visible high-definition
LED green dot aimer, making the unit comfortable to use while increasing overall
productivity, particularly in environments where bar codes are close to one another or otherwise difficult to read.
The imagers’ wide operational temperature range allows expansion into more
demanding applications, and their lower power consumption increases overall battery life provided by a single charge. (Honeywell Safety and Productivity
