Mobile yard ramps and
loading docks: The Dockzilla
mobile yard ramps and portable loading docks from
Leum Engineering provide
an alternative to installing
a permanent loading dock.
They also can be relocated to
other projects or locations if
a business moves.
The Dockzilla product line includes mobile yard ramps, impactable
yard ramps, portable loading docks, dock-to-ground ramps,
self-standing platforms, cross-docks, and custom alternatives to
permanent loading dock construction.
Dockzilla products can handle a wide range of applications, from
unloading a van with a hand cart to unloading massive 30-ton
bulldozers. They are designed to withstand the rigors of daily
trailer unloading and forklift impacts and are backed by a five-year
standard warranty. The products are designed with ergonomic
and employee safety features that meet or exceed OSHA loading
dock requirements. According to the company, Dockzilla mobile
and fixed-position products increase productivity by up to 80 percent over manual loading/unloading. (Leum Engineering, www.

Picking solution: Storage solutions company ICAM has released a
new picking solution called IRIDE.
The company sees IRIDE as an improvement over more traditional
pick-to-light or put-to-light systems. IRIDE uses colored light beams
to identify the locations containing the material to be handled.
This light picking guide is used in combination with the system’s
Head-up Digital Dashboard, which projects information, such as
the quantity to pick, directly into the operator’s field of vision. This
eliminates the need to continually glance from the picking tray to
the control panel. As a result, the operator does not need as much
time to refocus as he or she would with a traditional pick-to-light
system. This helps the operator to keep his or her focus longer and
reduces eye fatigue. (ICAM, www.icamonline.eu/eng)
Camera for AS/RS: Westfalia Technologies now offers a vertical lift
station (VLS) camera as a standard part of its automated storage
and retrieval system (AS/RS).
As an add-on to Westfalia’s Storage/Retrieval Machine (S/RM),
the camera allows warehouse personnel to view pallets remotely. This improved view increases safety and accuracy in product
storage and retrieval, while adding efficiency to warehouse and
distribution center operations, according to Westfalia. The camera
helps optimize warehouse performance by allowing maintenance
personnel to identify any S/RM disruptions quickly.
The VLS camera is fully integrated with Westfalia’s component solutions via wireless connection. The camera records in
1080p HDTV, while remote control allows for a 360-degree pan,
200-degree tilt, and 36x optical zoom with electronic image stabilization. The camera can operate under extreme temperature
conditions (- 40 degrees F to 120 degrees F) and can be augmented
by LED lights for dark environments. Notably, the camera feature is retrofit capable, allowing current Westfalia customers to
install cameras onto existing S/RMs. (Westfalia Technologies, www.
