Trailer refrigeration unit: Built to
provide stationary cold storage, Carrier
Transicold’s new engineless Vector
8100 all-electric trailer refrigeration
unit consumes less electricity than previous models while delivering up to 4
percent higher capacity. It is designed
specifically for produce warehouses,
food distribution centers, and other
businesses that use refrigerated trailers
for on-site cold storage.
The 8100 joins Carrier Transicold’s Vector line of refrigerated trailer products. These devices feature E-Drive all-electric
refrigeration technology, which means refrigeration and heating
operations are 100-percent electric. As a result, the Vector 8100
provides quiet electric operation without the noise, emissions,
and fuel consumption associated with diesel-powered units.
The Vector 8100 provides up to 4 percent greater cooling
capacity while using up to 20 percent less electricity than its
predecessor, the Vector 5100. The Vector 8100’s control system
features a large illuminated dashboard display that provides
on-screen temperature graphing and a USB dock to facilitate
data downloads and software uploads.
The standard Vector 8100 configuration requires a 460-
volt power supply. Units may also be equipped with Carrier
Transicold’s optional Flex Power dual voltage option, which
enables compatibility with 208- to 230-volt sources. (Carrier

Collaboration software: TAKE Supply Chain has released a new
version of OneSCM, a software-as-a-service-based supply chain
collaboration software solution focused on helping mid-market
companies manage their extended supply chain operations.
The latest version, OneSCM Enterprise 7. 4, features a new user
interface designed to decrease end-to-end transaction time for
procurement collaboration, accounts payable automation, ship-
ment collaboration, and demand/forecast collaboration tasks.
The release also features expanded inbound materials trace-
ability and shipping window enforcement to increase receiving
accuracy and accelerate invoicing for dynamic discounting.
Suppliers can create and submit multilevel shipments with
advance shipment notices and package tracking numbers within
OneSCM. The shipment is approved or rejected in real time based
on established shipping window tolerances, which can be set to
three levels: accept, warning, and rejected. Pre-approved packag-
ing labels are provided for shipments falling within the accepted
and warning ranges. Rejected shipments prompt the supplier/
shipper to contact the buyer directly to resolve the issue.
Improvements also include page redesigns that provide faster
access to commonly used transactions and tasks such as reviews,
changes, and submits. (TAKE Supply Chain, onescm.com)
Thermal ink-jet printer: Videojet
Technologies’ new thermal ink-jet
printer, the Videojet 8610, allows
companies to print high-resolution
codes on nonporous packaging,
such as films, foils, plastics, and
coated stocks. The printer uses
fast-drying inks, which allow packaging professionals to print
multiline codes and other high-resolution marks, including
DataMatrix and QR codes, on the nonporous packaging material,
according to Videojet.
To accomplish this, the 8610 uses a patented high-resolution
print cartridge that is designed specifically to work with industrial
inks, including fast-drying solvent inks such as MEK (methyl ethyl
ketone).
Printer maintenance is minimal, according to Videojet, and
only requires an occasional wipe of the print array and the shutter. Ink replenishment is accomplished with a simple cartridge
change, a task that can be performed in 15 seconds or less by
a novice operator, the company says. (Videojet Technologies,

Order-picking smart glasses: Evolar, an information and communications technology and logistics company based in Belgium,
has brought the concept of smart glasses into the warehouse
with its new “smartpick” solution. The solution uses Vuzix M100
Smart Glasses from Vuzix Corp. for order picking.
Similar to voice picking, the smartpick application allows the
picker to use both hands instead of having to hold a device with
one hand and pick with the other. The smartpick glasses, however, require less investment than other hands-free solutions such
as pick-to-light or voice, according to Evolar.
Smartpick is a cloud-based solution, and so does not require
any additional infrastructure beyond an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system or warehouse management system to access
order data, a printer, and a Wi-Fi connection. (Evolar, www.
