Freight audit and payment system: Softeon,
a supply chain software developer, is now
offering a freight audit and payment (FAP)
system as a component of its transportation
management system. This system can rate
and audit freight bills across several dozen
attributes and accessorials, and can perform
a three-way match among a company’s own
shipment information, proof-of-delivery information, and the carrier’s freight bill. It can be
used for parcel, less-than-truckload (LTL), and
full truckload shipments.
Softeon says its FAP system allows companies to use the same type of software that
some third-party audit firms use to identify
carriers’ errors and overcharges. With FAP,
shippers can identify, document, and report on
all the overcharges, such as a parcel carrier’s
missing its delivery commitment for a given
class of service, a truckload carrier’s miscalculating accessorial charges, or an LTL carrier’s
misclassifying freight.
Softeon’s FAP has the ability to allocate
revenue and cost at the stock-keeping unit
(SKU) level to more accurately calculate cost
of goods sold (COGS). The software can also
provide shipment tracking and customer service capabilities to measure carrier billing and
delivery performance. It includes analytics, such
as detailed freight spend and volume analysis.
FAP can be delivered via the cloud or through
a more traditional deployment. (Softeon, www.

Fleet optimization software: XRS Corp. has
added a new feature to its mobile fleet optimization solution. Called TRP, the service will help
fleets manage the productivity and efficiency
of their equipment and drivers within a single
application.
TRP will monitor trips and routes, providing
“planned vs. actual” reporting and real-time
insight. Fleet managers can view deviations
from a planned route and accurately project
up-to-the-minute “estimated times of arrival”
as drivers progress through a trip, while drivers
can access a route plan through their smartphone, tablet, or rugged handheld.
The XRS mobile platform runs on more than
50 types of mobile devices and automatically
transmits vehicle and operator data directly to a
management dashboard, providing compliance
with the upcoming mandate for electronic logging devices. With XRS, there are no upfront
hardware costs and no capital requirements.
Every XRS package includes an XRS Relay in-cab
device that communicates via Bluetooth with
the driver’s existing smartphone or tablet. (XRS

Air cushions: Protective packaging specialist
Storopack is extending its range of AIRplus air
cushions with three new types of film: Bubble
29b, Bubble 53b, and Cushion 28p. All three
are designed to replace conventional pre-inflated
bubble wrap.
AIRplus Bubble is now available in both a standard width of 400 mm/15.7 inches (Bubble 29b)
and a larger width of 700 mm/27.6 inches (Bubble
53b). AIRplus Bubble is suitable for packaging
small items such as cell phones or cosmetics, or
tall, narrow products such as fluorescent tubes,
according to Storopack.
The AIRplus Cushion air cushion line now
includes a film type with 28 air chambers per perforated section (Cushion 28p).
The film is 675 mm ( 26. 6 inches) wide, which makes it suitable for wrapping larger
items, such as laptops.
AIRplus can be set up as an on-demand system directly at the packing station or
at a central location in the packaging department. (Storopack, www.storopack.us)
