Navigational Clearance Achieved
On June 8, 2017, the United States Coast Guard Sector
New York verified the early completion of a higher
navigational clearance level at the Bayonne Bridge.
The new clearance of 215 feet allows the larger, more
environmentally friendly cargo vessels of up to
18,000 TEUs to access marine terminals in Elizabeth
and Newark, New Jersey, and Staten Island, New York.
The Bayonne Bridge’s lower roadway removal was
completed seven months ahead of a revised year-end
schedule to increase air draft clearance capacity beyond
151 feet and to facilitate access west of the bridge for
vessels exceeding 9,400 TEUs.
We’re making it more efficient for vessels to reach all
marine terminals, enabling the Port of New York and
New Jersey to welcome vessels up to 18,000 TEUs.
That’s what we call delivering the goods.
