Mapping software: Paragon Software
Systems has launched the Waypoint Mapping
module. This latest innovation will enable
fleet operations to benefit from higher levels
of efficiency, customer service, and safety
by ensuring that actual journeys keep to the
expected plan.
Waypoint Mapping sends the Paragon route plan directly to the driver, providing
turn-by-turn guidance through the Sat Nav device to achieve the most efficient
journey, while factoring in any road or truck restrictions. The company says providing drivers with guidance in the cab will help ensure that optimized routes
are more closely followed, with the transport office able to review any diversions
during the driver debrief back at the depot.
When used in conjunction with Paragon’s Route Control, Waypoint Mapping
enables transport operations to better comply with time-sensitive road restrictions
or congestion caused by sporting or cultural events. The adoption of Paragon’s
Truck Attribute Data will also help users avoid routes where the vehicle may
exceed weight or size limits, including narrow roads and low bridges. (Paragon

Industrial touchscreen computers: Rugged
computer specialist JLT Mobile Computers has
introduced its Power Touch projective capacitive
touch (PCT) display technology.
The PowerTouch technology is available on
two of JLT’s most popular industrial computers. The first is the compact Verso+ 10 mobile
computer, which is ideal for use within the
heavy-duty and logistics segments due to its
small form factor, flexible QuickLock feature,
and outstanding performance, the company
says.
The second is the JLT1214P forklift computer, which is designed for a variety of logistics applications, ranging from warehousing
and food distribution to freezer storage and
cross-docking.
Both the Verso+ 10 and the JLT1214P
computers come equipped with the new
Power Touch display. They offer users an interaction experience similar to that of consumer
devices, but thanks to the addition of a 0.07-
inch thick, chemically toughened glass cover,
the screens are far more resilient, making
scratches, scuffs, or even breakage a thing
of the past. Unlike resistive screens, which
typically fail in areas where keys are regularly
pressed, PCT screens aren’t susceptible to
wear and tear, making them well suited for
use with virtual keyboard technology. In addition, PowerTouch screens share the capability
of resistive touchscreens in that they can be
operated by users wearing gloves of different
materials and thicknesses.
Combined with an Intel quad-core processor, the PowerTouch screens also exhibit very
fast response times, which means that after
the screen is touched, the response appears
to be instantaneous. Finally, advanced control
firmware, which filters out unwanted signals
caused by water droplets on the screen, means
that these screens can be deployed in wet
environments. (JLT Mobile Computers, www.
