Bar-code reader: Cognex Corp. has added the DataMan 70
series to its line of compact fixed-mount bar-code readers.
DataMan 70 delivers the highest read rates for 1-D and 2-D label-based bar codes in a form factor small enough to fit in the palm
of your hand, according to the company. Its flexible configuration
options and small size make it ideal for mounting in tight spaces
on production lines and in machinery.
The DataMan 70 measures just 22. 2 millimeters (0.87 inches)
long by 35. 8 millimeters ( 1. 41 inches) wide by 42. 4 millimeters
( 1. 67 inches) high and is optimized with bar-code reading algorithms and individually controlled LEDs to ensure continuously
high read rates. (Cognex Corp., www.cognex.com)
Pallet cart: Verti-Lift has introduced a heavy-duty transfer cart
that quickly and ergonomically moves pallets and
other heavy components (up to 4,000 pounds)
within production environments. This
custom-designed solution includes
a gravity roller conveyor, a pallet
retaining bar to secure the load during
transport, and a manual foot-actuated
“locking/docking arm” for convenient
hands-free operation.
The cart is fitted with heavy-duty swivel casters that allow
movement in all directions. A hitch-and-pin arrangement for
towing is included so that multiple units can be used together.
This cart technology is ideal for moving wood, plastic, and aluminum pallets, as well as shipping containers, equipment skids,
component frames and bases, and production equipment, the
company says.
This purpose-built cart is easy to use. Workers roll the cart
into position, then set the locking/docking bar to secure the cart
beside a conveyor line. Once a pallet has been placed on the cart,
the pallet-retaining bar is lowered into position, thus securing the
load for transport. (Verti-Lift, www.verti-lift.com)
RFID sensor tags: Powercast Corp. has designed its new RFID
(radio-frequency identification) environmental monitoring sensor
tags to include multiple sensors in a single tag and to provide a
read range of 10 meters ( 32 feet). High-accuracy temperature,
humidity, and light sensors are now available, with more sensor
types planned for the future. Tags for sensing the RFID reader’s
field are also available.
Applications for the ultra-high-frequency (UHF) RFID sensor
tags, which are designed to monitor data to ensure goods don’t
fall outside of acceptable parameters, include the tracking of
temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals or perishable products
during shipment.
Powercast offers two versions of its high-function RFID sensor
tags: the PCT100 and the PCT200. The PCT100 enables bat-tery-free wireless sensing and can read data within seconds, while
the PCT200 adds a battery with the unique ability to recharge
using any standard RFID reader’s field. This capability makes the
tag reusable without plugging in or changing batteries.
The PCT100 and PCT200 can be configured with one, two, or
three sensors in any combination of temperature, humidity, and
light. The PCT100 can also be configured with an on-board LED
for showing an RFID reader’s field strength and to verify that it
is reading properly. (Powercast Corp., www.powercastco.com)
Risk management service: Aljex Software, a company that
provides Web-based transportation management systems for
brokers, has teamed up with Safer Watch, an advanced motor
carrier risk management service, to offer a new integrated
carrier management solution. The integration gives Aljex users
access to the SaferWatch carrier risk assessment, selection,
and monitoring tools, which help shippers, freight brokers,
and other 3PL providers obtain the most up-to-date carrier
safety and Certificate of Insurance data available.
When a 3PL broker adds a new carrier to the Aljex system,
the new SaferWatch capability imports that carrier’s information and provides a risk-assessment score that’s intuitive and
easy to understand. SaferWatch has more advanced criteria
than the government’s Safersys scoring system, the company
says.
Inside the Aljex interface, SaferWatch carrier data is updated in real time. SaferWatch displays up-to-date information
within the carrier profile or on screen while covering a load. If
a carrier gets dropped from its insurance, users know about it
within minutes. (Aljex Software, www.aljex.com)
Cargo storage solution: Kinedyne LLC, a manufacturer and
distributor of cargo control products for the transportation
industry, has introduced the E-Hook brand wall-mounted
freight-loading storage solution. The unique product solves
the problem of how to safely and securely stow long and
unwieldy cargo and keep it off the floor, where it can be damaged, pose a tripping hazard, and take up otherwise valuable
space, the company says.
The E-Hook mounts securely to any vertically installed
A-Track, E-Track, or logistics post system. Users simply insert
the device’s brackets into the track slots and slide them down
until they are securely seated.
The product is robust and has a working load limit of 300
pounds (135 kilograms), according to the company. Multiple
hooks can be mounted to accommodate longer cargo, and
the E-Hook can be installed at different heights along a wall
to support freight with contoured shapes.
The device is designed with an eye-loop at its outer end,
enabling cargo securement products to be hooked in for additional cargo stability and security. The E-Hook is made of clear
zinc-plated steel with a slip-resistant coating of orange vinyl in
its cradle area. (Kinedyne LLC, www.kinedyne.com)
LED head light: TVH in
the Americas has added
the SYLED1500FH LED
head light to its work
light product line. The
new model is designed
with a durable aluminum housing and a
polycarbonate lens, and
comes with a pedestal
mount and stainless steel hardware. The light is also equipped
with two LEDs with a flood pattern beam to obtain a wide
range of visibility. (TVH in the Americas, www.tvh.com/
