recently participated in the 2009
Autorama “Educational Days” reception,
which is held to attract new talent to
automotive aftermarket industries.
During Autorama’s annual Educational
Days, students and instructors have the
opportunity to enjoy the best the custom
car and automotive aftermarket industries have to offer. The events also feature guest speakers who share their passion for the industry. Chip Foose and
Troy Trepanier were on hand to address
and encourage the approximately 3,000
students and instructors during an
Educational Days reception. In addition,
BASF displayed its Foose Signature
Line of automotive refinish paints at the
Chip Foose Autorama exhibit.
Additionally, the winner of this year’s
Autorama Ridler award was presented
to a custom 1932 Ford ‘Deucenberg V8’
painted with BASF’s ‘Dark Garnet Red
Metallic’ Glasurit 90-Line waterborne
product. The Ridler award, given out
every year at the Detroit Autorama, is
one of the custom car industry’s biggest
awards. Held annually in March,
Autorama of Detroit, MI, is the largest
indoor custom car show in the U.S.

distribution arm of Dutch energy supplier Essent (now operating under the
name Enexis). AkzoNobel will supply its
VOC-compliant Sikkens Autocoat BT
paint to Dutch branding specialists
RGN, who are managing the rebranding
of Essent Network’s fleet of 1,100 vehicles. Various other objects and surfaces
are also being rebranded to meet with
the recently introduced Enexis livery
and house style requirements. The target date for the completion of the Enexis
project is the end of June, 2009.
PENSKE RACING USES ENVIROBASE
HIGH PERFORMANCE COATINGS
PPG Automotive Refinish has teamed
up with Penske Racing to help convert
the team’s racecar painting facility in
Mooresville, NC, to its Envirobase High
Performance waterborne coatings system. The conversion began with the
painting of the No. 2 Miller Lite and No.
77 Mobil 1 Penske Racing Dodge
Chargers, which made their debut at the
Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor
Speedway. The No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge
features the PPG Automotive Refinish
logo on the deck lid.
AKZONOBEL WINS PAINT CONTRACT
FOR DUTCH REBRANDING PROJECT
AkzoNobel’s car refinishes business has
PPG waterborne coatings specialist,
Jim Skal, has been working with Penske
Racing staff at their headquarters in
Mooresville on the conversion process.
