PPG patents multilayer coating
Patent No. U.S. 7,390,559 B2
PPG Industries has been granted
a patent for a multilayer coating system comprised of a first, thermally
cured coating, the first coating being
produced from a first film forming
resin having one or more thermally
curable groups and one or more radiation curable groups; and a second,
radiation cured coating comprised of
a radiation cured resin; wherein at
least some radiation curable groups
in the first coating are bonded to at
least some of the radiation cured
resin of the second coating and the
weight percent of radiation curable
group(s) in the first coating is below
that which is needed to render the
first coating radiation curable.
RED SPOT PAINT AND VARNISH
PATENTS IN-MOLD-COATED
AUTOMOTIVE INTERIOR
Patent No. U.S. 7,390,555 B2
Red Spot Paint & Varnish Co. has
obtained a patent for a polyurethane
product comprised of a molded inner
polyurethane layer; a coating
adhered to the inner polyurethane
layer; the coating formed in-mold
with the polyurethane layer and having a textured surface defined by a
mold surface against which the coating has been formed, the coating further comprised of the reaction product of an aqueous acrylic copolymer
dispersion, wherein the copolymer
has a Tg of less than 25°C, and
wherein the copolymer has a core
and shell structure; and wherein the
polyurethane product is a vehicular
steering wheel, a vehicular instrument panel, a vehicular armrest, a
vehicular headrest, a vehicular floor
console, a vehicular knee bolster, a
vehicular airbag door, a vehicular
glove compartment door or a vehicular seat cushion.
VALSPAR PATENTS REFLECTIVE
POLYESTER COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,393,591 B2
Valspar Sourcing, Inc. has received a patent for a coated substrate article comprised of a substrate coated with a coating composition, wherein the coating composition is comprised of a binder that
includes a cycloaliphatic group and
is comprised of a polyester resin having a number average molecular
weight from approximately 1,000 to
40,000, the binder is comprised of
less than 40% weight aromatic group
containing compound, and a pigment, wherein the weight ratio of
pigment to binder is greater than
0.9:1, and wherein the binder, when
blended with rutile TiO at a solids
2
loading of 50% weight and coated to
a dried film thickness of 0.00254 cm,
exhibits a Y-value of at least 85.5.
DAINICHISEIKA COLOR AND
CHEMICALS PATENTS
PIGMENT DISPERSANTS
Patent No. U.S. 7,393,404 B2
Dainichiseika Color and Chemicals Manufacturing Company has
been granted a patent for a pigment
dispersant comprised of the following component (a) alone or the following components (a) and (b) in
combination. Component (a): a composite pigment formed of a diketopyrrolopyrrole pigment having a sulfonic group and another diketopyrrolopyrrole pigment having no sulfonic group, wherein the number of
sulfonic group per molecule of the
diketopyrrolopyrrole pigments in the
composite pigment is from 0.05 to
0.5; and component (b): a pigment
other than the component (a), wherein the pigment has a sulfonic group
or a metal salt, ammonium salt or
amine salt thereof.
SHELLBOND PATENTS
METHODS FOR PRODUCING
PROTECTIVE COATINGS
Patent No. U.S. 7,393,558 B2
ShellBond LLC has obtained a
patent for a method of producing a
protective coating on a metal surface. The method is comprised of
heating an animal skeletal material
to a temperature of at least 1000°C
to convert at least part of the calcium carbonate in the skeletal material to calcium oxide and produce a calcined product; contacting at least
part of the calcined product with
water to produce a particulate material containing calcium hydrate; dispersing the particulate material in a
liquid carrier to produce a coating
composition comprising the particulate material; and applying the coating composition to a metal surface to
produce a protective coating thereon.
SURFACE SPECIALTIES ITALY
PATENTS POWDER COATINGS
Patent No. U.S. 7,390,849 B2
Surface Specialties Italy has
obtained a patent for powder coating
compositions which are thermally
and radiation curable. The thermally
and radiation curable powder coatings are comprised of at least one
resin A having epoxy groups and at
least one compound B having acid
and/or acid anhydride groups, characterized in that the resin A has a
specific content of epoxy groups of
from 0.2 mol/kg to 3. 4 mol/kg, and if
compound B has acid groups, that
the compound B has an acid number
of from 150 mg/g to 600 mg/g, and
that at least one of the components A
and B contains olefinically unsaturated groups, the thermal curing
being effected by reaction of the
epoxy groups with the acid and/or
acid anhydride groups. CW
