JOTUN PAINTS REACHES OUT TO
THE BLIND COMMUNITY IN BAHRAIN
Jotun Paints has completed its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign that reached out to visually-impaired children at the Bahrain
Friendship Society for the Blind. The initiative involved the repainting of a blind
children’s nursery school in the town of
Isa, using Fenomastic quality paint. The
move, which is part of Jotun’s CSR initiatives in the Middle East, was organised in partnership with the American
Mission Hospital, an organization that
aims to serve Bahrain’s local community.
Established in 1981, the Bahrain
Friendship Society for the Blind, extends
training and developmental needs to the
country’s visually impaired sector. One of
the leading projects of the group is the
blind children’s nursery school, which
aims to ensure the development of blind
children who are in the kindergarten
level. Since the interiors of the nursery
school had never been repainted since its
construction, Jotun offered to provide
one of its Fenomastic paints and the necessary materials towards this cause. The
repainting of the academic facility was
coordinated with the American Mission
Hospital, which resulted in a cleaner and
safer environment for the children
attending the nursery.

SprayMax Industrial Coatings of
Jacksonville, FL has introduced
DeckraTex Spray Non Skid Floor
Coating after seven years of testing.
Deckra Tex is an aliphatic polyurea that
has been pre-reacted and suspended in
water. This is important as there are no
dangerous fumes to cause need of building evacuation during application.
DecraTex is mixed 50/50 by volume
with a customers choice of quartz, silica
or other type media. As a simple non-skid floor coating for an industrial application the contractor can tint the UV sta-
ble DecraTex to his choice of color.
Adding silica sand the Deckra Tex Floor
Coating mix can be spray applied with
an inverted Hopper Gun or for larger
jobs a Graco Spray Tex 1500.
DeckraTex can also be mixed with
Multi Color Quartz to give a multi-color
granite appearance as a floor coating.
With the simple use of tape, patterns
such as tile or brick can be created and
sprayed over. The tape is pulled up on
cure. DeckraTex typical applications
include garage floors, driveways, patio
floors and industrial floors such as meat
cutting plants and bakeries where
USDA compliance for non-direct food
contact is a must.

Sika AG has acquired Iotech Group
Limited, with headquarters in England
and subsidiaries in the UK, U.S. and
Belgium. Iotech Group revenues totaled
$55 million for the year 2008. Iotech
specializes in formulation, production
and supply of polyurethane liquid membranes and intermediates. Liquid membranes are well established in the glob-

CHAMPION GERD MÜLLER
R-M, a BASF Coatings’ paint brand,
has signed on Gerd Müller, the
European airbrush champion. Müller
will be sharing his expertise in all
aspects of Carizzma premium paint
finish as part of expert seminars for
R-M customers.
Müller will be teaching the participants in the expert seminars how to
use complex airbrush techniques. At
his airbrush studio Luftpinsel
(German for “airbrush”) in Maberzell,
Germany, he offers training courses
and carries out custom painting
orders. His studio is equipped with 12
workbays and an air compressor.
The expert seminars held by Gerd
Müller feature custom painting and are
the third and final part of R-M’s
Carizzma training concept. In the basic
seminar, the spraypainters are introduced to R-M’s Onyx HD waterborne
paint system. Carizzma, with its four
powders and seven dyes, is based on
this waterborne paint system. In addition, the participants learn basic appli-
cation techniques in the area of custom
refinishing, such as “Burled wood root,”
“Marble” and the plastic film technique.
The seminar for advanced users
focuses on planning and offers tips for
creative designs and techniques for
complex designs such as “Flaming,”
“Real Flames” and “Ghost Flames.”
Müller earned the title of European airbrush champion in 2006 by airbrushing a
Harley Davidson, decorating the black motorcycle with a so-called ghost brush.
The design includes elements from the aeronautical technology used for spaceships.
