; Secret sauce. Ken’s Foods has
announced plans to begin shipping its
retail products on pooled plastic pallets from Intelligent Global Pooling
Systems (iGPS). The Marlborough,
Mass.-based maker of salad dressings
and sauces says it chose the iGPS plastic pallet service partly for its environmental advantages over wood.
; Power up. The Raymond Corp. will
be installing the PowerFleet vehicle
management system from I.D.
Systems on the lift trucks destined for
an undisclosed package delivery and
logistics customer. The $1.1 million
deal is part of a marketing agreement
between Raymond and I.D. Systems in
which Raymond will offer PowerFleet
to its customers.
; More in store. Logistica La
Serenisima S.A. recently expanded and
upgraded the Westfalia automated
storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) at
its facility in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
As part of the upgrade, the company
added a fourth storage/retrieval
machine (SRM) and updated the software and conveyor controls.
; 21-gun salute. Forte, a distribution
consulting and systems integration
firm, recently completed an upgrade
at the rue21 DC in Weirton, W.V., that
doubled the facility’s store packing
capacity. The upgrade at the specialty
fashion retailer’s 189,600-square-foot
DC included the implementation of
an automated pack-to-light system
and a work platform structure as well
as warehouse control system
upgrades.
; Going Dutch. Overtoom, a
Netherlands-based retailer of office
supplies and warehouse and work-place equipment, has selected
Manhattan Associates’ Warehouse
Management solution to optimize its
domestic and international distribution operations. Manhattan’s WMS
was implemented at Overtoom’s
377,000-square-foot DC in Den
Dolder, which serves the Dutch market and other parts of central Europe.
; Going for four. Jacobson, a U.S.-based third-party logistics service
provider, is implementing a number
of software solutions from Four Soft
(4S). They include 4S eTrans, a multimodal transportation management
system; 4S Visilog, an order management system; 4S eCustoms, a global
customs solution; and 4S Infotips, a
business intelligence tool. The software will be implemented across
Jacobson locations globally to help
streamline mission-critical operations.
; Mooving ahead. Schreiber Foods
has selected LeanLogistics’ On-Demand TMS to manage its transportation activities. Schreiber, which
supplies dairy foods liked processed
cheese to the food-service industry,
will use the software to manage its
refrigerated truckload shipments.
; On file. American Airlines Cargo is
implementing Descartes’ Global Filer
solution to manage its import customs
filings to the European Union’s new
import control system. Global Filer
enables collaboration between multiple parties for customs security filings
across different modes of transport.
