On a roll: Conroll now offers Polyvee belts for driving PolyVee
grooved roller-to-roller conveyors. Unlike conventional PolyVee belts
made of rubber with reinforced cords, these three-rib belts are solid
polyurethane, the company says. They are specifically designed to
stretch, allowing easy assembly and providing shock absorption for
start-stop operation in zero pressure accumulation conveyors as well
as on transport conveyors. (Conroll, www.conroll.com)
How dry I am: Carrier Transicold has enhanced the dehumidification capabilities of its PrimeLine refrigeration container units,
enabling them to maintain relative humidity (RH) levels as low as
50 percent with no compromise in energy efficiency. The
PrimeLine unit was developed to help shipping lines conserve fuel
and reduce emissions related to shipboard power generation.
Low RH is important for shipping certain types of produce,
such as ginger and other root crops, onions, garlic, and flower
bulbs. Keeping things dry can also be helpful when shipping
paper products, artwork, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and even
certain metals that might be prone to surface staining.
Thanks to the PrimeLine unit’s electronic expansion valve, the
dehumidification enhancement was done entirely through
sophisticated software algorithms. No change to the mechanical
design was required. This enhanced capability can also be added
to existing PrimeLine models when users upgrade to the latest
control software.
The PrimeLine units offer exceptional pull-down capability and
high deep-frozen capacity for units using non-ozone-depleting
R-134a. (Carrier Transicold, www.carrier.com)
Drive forward: Siemens has
released its new Sinamics G110D
drive platform. The latest solution in the company’s Totally
Integrated Automation (TIA)
portfolio, the Sinamics G110D is
suitable for installation in close
proximity to motors located
throughout facilities where dust
and water ingression are a concern. Applications for the new
drive range from material handling or packaging conveyors and
airport baggage carousels to pumps, fans, compressors, and
other industrial equipment.
The economically priced drive includes integrated plug-and-play
power and control for easy installation, and an optional Intelligent
Operator Panel (IOP) for simple text application setup in a reduced
footprint. (Siemens, www.usa.siemens.com/motioncontrol)

Raising their voices: Lucas Systems, a supplier of voice-directed
warehouse applications for open, mobile computers, unveils the
Serenade Speech Recognition Platform. Part of the Jennifer
VoicePlus system for voice picking and other warehouse operations, Serenade is designed to reduce user voice training time by
more than 75 percent compared with conventional warehouse
voice technology, while improving accuracy for the most challenging users and warehouse environments.
With Serenade, individual users go through a quick five-minute enrollment process, rather than the 25- to 30-minute
voice training process required with most speaker-dependent
systems. In addition, the new system provides improved recognition and faster performance to drive incremental productivity
gains in the picking process.
The Serenade speech recognition platform provides the advantages of both user-dependent and user-independent speech
recognition approaches in a single product. It incorporates adaptive voice modeling and advanced noise filtering and suppression
techniques working with third-party speech recognition technologies. In addition, Serenade supports speech recognition for
dozens of languages.
Serenade is a key component of Jennifer VoicePlus, the latest
generation of Jennifer software. It is also available as an upgrade
for current Jennifer customers. (Lucas Systems Inc.,

Clipped in: Akro-Mils, a maker of storage, organization, and
transport products, has introduced a Bin Retainer Clip accessory
that prevents bins from falling off louvered panels and louvered
rack systems while in transit.
Whether the clips are used on
a mobile louvered transport rack
or in the back of work trucks and
vans, they offer a safer way to
transport a wide range of
AkroBins and ProHanger storage
bins. The new clips, which are
made of durable engineering-grade plastic, are designed to be
easy to use and install, and will not permanently adhere to sur-
faces. They can be removed, replaced, and reused without dam-
aging bins or panels. (Akro-Mils, www.akro-mils.com)
