ADVERTORIAL
LEARN FROM THE EXPERTS
ProMat offers multiple opportunities to advance your knowledge and your career.
ProMat 2011, coming March 21-24 to Chicago’s McCormick Place, will be the place to see the
latest innovations, equipment and software solutions for manufacturing, distribution and warehouse operations. But in addition to being the largest material handling show held in North
America this year, ProMat will offer attendees more than 90 free educational sessions.
“The ProMat Educational Conference is an opportunity for attendees to hear about technology and systems that can improve their operations, given by experts on those systems,” explains
Gary Forger, senior vice president of professional development at the Material Handling Industry
of America (MHIA).
The Educational Conference at ProMat 2011 is bigger than ever. It includes two keynote
addresses, two educational tracks and numerous expert presentations held directly on the
show floor.
On Monday of ProMat, the keynote speaker is Tom Ridge, the former governor of
Pennsylvania and the first Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He will be speaking on supply chain security in a risk-based world. The keynote session on Tuesday focuses on
how NASA and General Motors are jointly developing the next generation of robots for use in
aeronautical and automotive applications. This partnership has led to the creation of Robonaut
2, a state-of-the-art dexterous humanoid robot.
On Tuesday, a full educational track deals with “The People Side of the Supply Chain.” Led by
Dan Boos of Boos Consulting Services, this track examines how participants can learn to be successful at managing the people who keep their supply chains moving. Included will be a panel
discussion that examines the salaries paid to supply chain professionals and what factors determine the value placed on various managerial positions. It will allow attendees to compare their
own salaries to norms, and to better determine what they are worth and why.
Wednesday’s educational track focuses on sustainability. This extensive program, run by Steve
Thomas, who has hosted the television programs “This Old House” and “Renovation Nation,” will
detail what it takes to get an environmental program started, what is working today and what a
sustainable supply chain might look like 20-30 years from now.
Throughout ProMat, a wide range of speakers will also share presentations in eight theaters
located on the show floor. Topic areas include best practices, cost saving ideas, supply chain performance, and much more. In addition, The Hub, a special area located in the heart of the ProMat
show floor, will serve as an interactive center offering additional information as well as educational and networking resources for ProMat visitors.
“The educational program at ProMat will provide opportunities for attendees to learn how to
improve their operations, become more efficient in meeting increasing demands and improve
services to their customers in ways they may never have thought of before,” adds Forger.
