Mobile computer: Janam has introduced a new rugged mobile computer that supports multiple operating systems (OS). The new XM5 supports Windows Embedded Handheld 6. 5 and Android operating systems on the same hardware, enabling customers to choose the OS strategy and application migration schedule that best meet their mobility requirements.

The XM5 combines the latest technological advancements in mobile devices with a sleek and rugged design, according to Janam. Customers can choose between an integrated best-in-class 1-D/2-D imager and 1-D laser scanner for instant decoding of the hardest-to-read bar codes. The XM5 also has embedded RFID and near field communication (NFC) reading capabilities.

The XM5 comes with either a QWERTY or numeric keypad and a 3.5-inch video graphics array (VGA) display that withstands heavy-duty use. It also offers 802.11a/b/g/n dual-band WLAN and 4G-ready UMTS/HSPA+/HSDPA/ HSUPA/GSM WWAN communications. The XM5 is sealed to IP65 standards, can withstand five-foot drops to concrete, and is UL-certified for hazardous environments. Event management: Transportation management system developer Aljex Software Inc. has introduced Event Manager, a new communications tool that enables brokers and dispatchers to resolve open questions and unsettled issues with any shipment.

Most transportation management systems allow users to flag shipments or loads so that they stand out on a dispatch screen until outstanding issues are resolved. Examples of issues include cases where the shipment is missing a street pickup address or a third party must be notified prior to delivery.

Event Manager not only flags shipments with problems in hot pink on operational screens but also states the reason for the flag along with contact information, including e-mail addresses, for everyone involved, such as the dispatcher, shipper, consignee, driver, or agent representative.

When the event is saved, all of those people are sent an e-mail notifying them of the issue. Until an authorized user clears the event, the event screen will pop up any time that shipment is accessed within the system. Electric lift truck: Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. (MCFA), the supplier of Jungheinrich lift trucks and nar-row-aisle products in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, has introduced a new 7,000-pound capacity model to its Jungheinrich large electric pneumatic tire lift truck series. The new EFG 535k- S50 series features advanced AC technology for increased performance and productivity, industry-leading lift speeds, and increased energy efficiency, according to MCFA.

This series is equipped with the newest generation of three-phase AC technology, resulting in increased productivity and the ability to run up to two shifts on a single battery charge in most applications. In addition, these forklifts feature a maintenance-free braking system that uses regeneration, which turns momentum into energy and feeds it back into the battery.

This new, smaller capacity electric pneumatic tire lift truck model also features a range of components for increased control, including responsive acceleration and braking. Other key features include Jungheinrich Curve Control, which enhances operator control by automatically reducing the driving speed when the operator is turning corners.
