Operator platform: To better utilize all available trailer space,
Caljan has introduced an operator platform that, when fitted to
the company’s telescopic conveyor, allows operators to fill a trailer completely up. Typically, when loading a trailer, the operator
is unable to reach the very top, which means the last 20 inches
across the breadth and length of the trailer is completely empty.
The new Caljan Operator Platform allows no wasted space,
thereby significantly saving on freight costs.
With a width of 63 inches, the platform has ample space for
two people to work alongside each other while leaving sufficient
space at either side to allow for passage between the platform
and the trailer it is extended into.
Caljan’s Performer telescopic conveyor fitted with its operator
platform can be used to load or unload any type of loose-loaded
cargo. The platform can be fitted, or retrofitted, to every telescopic conveyor in the Caljan Performer range. (Caljan, www.

Transportation software: ALK Technologies, a GeoLogistics
solutions and navigation software provider, has announced
the latest addition to its suite of transportation solutions,
PC-Miler|Rates. Developed with transportation management
software provider 3GTMS, PC-Miler|Rates provides shippers,
brokers, and third-party logistics service providers with quick,
accurate real-time rate calculations and options for multiple less-than-truckload and small-package carriers.
With PC-Miler|Rates, a company’s existing carrier contracts
are uploaded directly into the system, eliminating the complexity
and hassle of the rate setup, and are continuously available for
immediate calculations. Rates are calculated based on account
tariffs, freight class, total weight, and accessorial fees, which
allows shippers, brokers, and third-party logistics service providers to identify a true cost for billing, auditing, and accurate
reconciliation.
The software populates the carrier and rate information by
first having the users enter their shipment information, including
weight, freight, class, and origin/destination. The cloud-based
solution then simultaneously retrieves multiple rates and detailed
carrier information. Rates can be chosen immediately or exported
for additional analytics or research. PC-Miler|Rates can be used
as a standalone service or integrated with any TMS system. (ALK

Sortation system: Beumer
Group has added the Rota-Sorter, a sortation system for
extremely gentle and quick
handling of a variety of items,
to its portfolio. The company says this robust machine is
quick and uses a special discharge technology that ensures the gentle handling of different
types of items, such as bags, polypacks, or packages.
The Rota-Sorter helps users transport light, flat items ranging
from 120 millimeters long, 60 millimeters wide, and 5 millimeters
high up to 1,200 millimeters long, 800 millimeters wide, and
800 millimeters high and up to 31. 5 kilograms on one line. The
system is capable of processing up to 5,000 items per hour. The
sinusoidal velocity curve of the discharge mechanism ensures
gentle handling of the items, even at high throughput rates, thus
considerably reducing damage rates.
The Rota-Sorter’s simple structure provides functional reliability. The system consists of only a handful of moving parts. The
discharge system requires no complicated electronics and only a
few sensors to ensure accurate sortation. The discharge system’s
design and easy accessibility for service technicians helps increase
system availability and reduces maintenance costs.
The modular system allows companies to mount the discharge
systems anywhere on the outside of the sorter, change its positioning afterward, and add other discharge systems. (Beumer
Group, www.beumergroup.com)
