AEONCLAD COATINGS
LAUNCHES BIOMEDICAL GROUP
AeonClad Coatings has launched a
new subsidiary that will focus on biomedical applications. AeonClad Biomedical LLC is expected to utilize the
company’s AeonCoat dry coating technology that would be used to coat and
encapsulate drugs or active pharmaceutical ingredients. The product is
designed to enable custom-made coatings for improved dissolution of poorly
water soluble drugs, as well as modified or sustained release, according to
the company. Coatings can also display functional groups used for secondary covalent coupling of biological
materials or for targeted drug delivery. Medical device coatings is the
most rapidly expanding sector of the
$213 billion medical device market,
the company said.
VALSPAR EXTENDS RELATIONSHIP
WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
The Valspar Corporation Foundation has
extended its long-standing relationship
with Habitat for Humanity International
with a multi-year commitment totaling
more than $20 million in cash and paint
donations. The Valspar Foundation will
provide paint to Habitat affiliates across
the U.S. and financial support to build
Habitat’s A Brush With Kindness program, an effort that assists families in
need, into a nationwide program.
The Valspar Foundation and Habitat
for Humanity International launched
their national partnership in 2002. With
this extended commitment, The Valspar
Foundation’s paint and cash partnership with Habitat for Humanity
International will reach nearly $40 million by 2012.
JOTUN TO BUILD NEW U.S. FACTORY
Jotun’s board of directors has approved
investment in a new factory in the U.S.
because, the company said, the U.S. is an
important marine market and also
becoming increasingly important for the
protective coatings segment. Jotun said
its existing factory in Belle Chasse, LA,
requires significant upgrading so for
business reasons as well as operational
reasons the decided to build a new factory. The new factory will be built in the
same Belle Chasse location as the current factory. Completion is expected in
one year.
PPG FILES SUIT AGAINST
SHERWIN-WILLIAMS
As reported in the
Pittsburgh Business
Times, PPG has filed a trademark
infringement suit against Sherwin-Williams for its use of the phrase “The
Color of Inspiration.” PPG says it has
used the phrase in connection with its
paint color selection and matching system, “Colors of Inspiration,” used at
Lowe’s stores.
MERCEDES-BENZ APPROVES
PPG PAINTS FOR REPAIR WORK
Daimler AG, manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has approved the
Global Refinish System from PPG,
including the Envirobase High Performance waterborne basecoat, for
repair in North America of all
Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. In addition, the Delfleet commercial coatings
system by PPG has been approved for
repair of Mercedes-Benz commercial
vehicles. The approvals were based on
results of a four-day audit conducted by
Mercedes-Benz representatives at PPG
facilities in the U.S. and Germany. The
Daimler AG audit covered several elements including quality planning; quality of supplied parts and materials; sys-tem/process quality; quality prod-uct/process; and failure management.
SHERWIN-WILLIAMS TO
ACQUIRE ALTAX IN POLAND
Sherwin-Williams has agreed to acquire
Altax Sp. zo.o. headquartered in Poznan,
Poland. Altax is a manufacturer of protective woodcare coatings and serves
JOTUN AWARDED EIFFEL TOWER CONTRACT
For the second time, Jotun has landed the contract to supply paint to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The tower is painted
every seven years and the project is expected to need
approximately 50,000 liters of paint. The project will start
in April this year and will be completed in October 2010.
The paint is a special corrosion-inhibiting product for steel
constructions and is supplied in unique shades developed
for the tower. The paint is supplied in three shades which
will give the impression of the tower being only one color.
Mammut Primer and Topcoat RQ will also be used.
