Sherwin-Williams Protective and Marine Coatings has introduced FluoroKem HS, a high solids, ultra-durable ambient cured fluoropolymer urethane premium performance finish. Especially beneficial for high-visibility structures where corrosion resistance and aesthetic appearance is important, FluoroKem HS provides one of the industry’s leading products for color and gloss retention, even in the most severe environmental exposures which benefits asset owners in extending life cycles, according to the firm.

FluoroKem HS is recommended for interior or exterior structures where extreme weather durability is required, including stadiums, water tanks, sports complexes, storage tank exteriors, bridges and other high visibility assets.

Results from accelerated weather testing reported FluoroKem HS outperformed high performance urethanes in gloss retention. Over 13,000 hours, FluoroKem HS maintained nearly 100 percent retention, compared to 20-30 percent for high performance urethanes and 10-20 percent for traditional urethanes. Testing in color retention over three years in Florida showed virtually no color change. In addition, its fast-dry characteristics allow for a dry to handle and minimum recoat time of 4 hours at 77˚ F.

Valspar Introduces Valde
ECP Powder Coating

The Valspar Corporation introduced Valde ECP, a patent pending powder coating system that delivers superior edge corrosion protection, in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible, according to the company. Valspar Valde ECP consists of two specially engineered powder coating layers that are applied consecutively and cured in a single oven cycle. The elimination of the intermediate cure and cool down steps saves end users significant capital and operating costs, reduces cycle time, operational footprint and work-in-progress inventory. Valde ECP is the first product to be commercialized under a multi-gen-erational technology strategy at Valspar that focuses on the use of dry-on-dry applied powder coatings.

Valde ECP significantly advances Valspar’s portfolio of products designed to provide best in class edge corrosion protection to the heavy machinery industry. It is estimated this industry spends nearly $250 million annually on premature corrosion claims, with many of these claims related to edge corrosion issues.

Dunn-Edwards Unveils Vin-L-Stripe Zone Marking Paint Dunn-Edwards has introduced a new line of interior/exterior, waterborne acrylic zone-marking paint called Vin-L-Stripe Zone Marking Paint. This specialty paint is ideal for striping parking lots, asphalt roads, driveways and curbs. Vin-L-Stripe Zone Marking Paint is available in white and a tintable base for yellow, red, blue, black and green.

BASF’s Offers XSpark Automotive OEM Coating The new “XSpark – designed by BASF” basecoats for automotive OEM coating contains very fine glass particles that reflect the light with greater precision, thus creating a pronounced sparkle. It glitters in an even more focused and intensive manner than any other currently known special-effect coating, according to the company.

The glass particles integrated in the coating flash clearly in the light, resulting in a pure, single-colored reflection. XSpark is targeted especially at premium car manufacturers and their customers.

With XSpark, BASF is putting another special-effect innovation in the “XColors – designed by BASF” product family on the market. XColors are innovative colors that feature special effects or exceptional color depth while being highly suitable for series production. They include the XFine coatings, which emphasize the shape of the body particularly strikingly thanks to its intensive metallic effect.
