Halox recently made advancements in
a water-based 2K urethane clear coat.
Halox combined Halox 430 JM with
Halox 550 WF to achieve more than
2,000 hours of Salt Fog exposure (ASTM
B 117) on bare aluminum. The combination of these two products proved
that Halox products are ideal corrosion
inhibitors for the general industrial and
decorative market segments, according
to the company. The fine particle size of
Halox 430 JM resulted in a clear, transparent finish and preserved the luster of
the aluminum substrate. Halox 550 WF is
a liquid organic sol-gel corrosion inhibitor. When combined with an inorganic
pigment it provides good anticorrosive
performance. In addition to promoting
adhesion, it has proven to be effective
time and again in reducing blistering and
undercutting at the scribe.
The synergistic combination of Halox
550 WF with Halox 430 JM’s zinc-free
technology is one of many alternatives to
achieving long-term corrosion protection
in clear coats applied to metal components while avoiding the use of toxic or
heavy metal based corrosion inhibitors.
Allnex Offers Ucecoat 7788
Binder
Allnex has introduced Ucecoat 7788,
a cost-effective, innovative solution for
formulators of water-based UV curable
wood coatings looking to differentiate
and customize their products. Ucecoat
7788 is a tin and VOC-free radiation curable polyurethane dispersion developed
for industrial wood and furniture applications. It offers a unique combination of
versatility, stability and performance/cost
ratio.
Ucecoat7788 is characterized by drying behavior and dispersion stability. It
also offers a good balance in elasticity,
hardness and toughness resulting in an
excellent coin resistance, according to the
company. Coatings based on UCECOAT
7788 are tack-free before cure, offering
ease of use without compromising on es-
thetical aspect. Its novel and unique poly-
mer design offers a wide compatibility
with other polymer chemistries as acrylics
or even alkyds, enabling formulators to
explore new blending combinations off
the beaten track.
Union Process Builds
DMQX-Mill
Union Process, Inc. has recently manufactured and delivered a complete PLC-controlled milling system for processing
silicon. The DMQX- 10 Milling System
initiates the process cycle by delivering
liquid to the premix tank. Dry powder is
then delivered via vacuum transfer and
metered into the tank using a volumetric
feeder. The raw materials formulation
is monitored using load cells mounted
beneath the pre-mix tank. The process
cycle is then started and the material is
milled to specification. Once the milling
step is complete, the slurry is automatically pumped to a dryer where the material is dried and the liquid is recovered
and recycled for the next process cycle.
The entire process is controlled by an
integrated PLC with user friendly touch
screen interface. The DMQX- 10 Milling
System provides consistent and efficient
sub-micron grinding with minimal operator intervention.

Software From Mar-Kov
Mar-Kov Computer Systems has released
Recipe Manager Pro for paints and coatings manufacturers. Mar-Kov has also
released a five-minute demo video summarizes the system’s main features.
Recipe Manager Pro software provides
formulations, process specifications, costing, manufacturing order tracking, batch
sheet and batch record generation, industry specific calculations such as VOC and
TIO2, and more. Recipe Manager Pro
also features a standard interface with
QuickBooks.
Brookfield Launches New
Web Site
Brookfield Engineering Laboratories, Inc.
has launched powderflowanalysis.com, a
new website dedicated to powder industry professionals and the science of powder flow testing. Powderflowanalysis.com
features exclusive Experts Interviews with
recognized powder industry leaders and
a Q&A section that answers specific customer questions. There is also a series of
educational Articles dealing with powder
density, flowability, a variety of manufacturing issues and much more.
Ross Inline High Shear
Mixers
Ross Inline High Shear Mixers are a ver-
satile choice for general purpose mixing,
powder wet-out, particle size reduction,
solubilization, emulsification and homog-
enization. This type of device features a
four-blade rotor running within a close
tolerance fixed stator at tip speeds in the
range of 3,000-4,000 ft/min, with ultra-
high shear designs running at tip speeds
over 11,000 ft/min. It creates mechani-
cal and hydraulic shear by continuously
drawing product components into the ro-
tor and expelling them radially through
the openings in the stator. Interchangeable
rotor/stator generators provide flexibility
to adapt to a variety of product recipes.
Inline High Shear Mixers are generally
capable of pumping low to medium vis-
cosity products without the need for an
auxiliary pump. These mixers are simple
to clean in place and are ideal for pro-
cess lines that require frequent change-
over from one formulation to another. A
simple valve can divert finished product
downstream or switch instantly from one
source vessel to another. The DMQX- 10
Mill is configured for metal-free grinding
featuring a removable zirconium oxide
grinding chamber and specially designed
agitator disks. The DMQX- 10 is driven
by an explosion-proof 20 HP motor and
variable frequency drive. CW
