AkzoNobel has appointed David Allen
as the company’s new head of integrated
supply chain. Allen joins AkzoNobel from
China National Bluestar Group, where he
has held the post of chief operating officer since 2009. Prior to joining Bluestar,
he worked for General Electric Company
and Sabic in various operations, manufacturing and logistics roles. Allen will
report directly to CEO Ton Büchner.
BASF Coatings Appoints
New Managing Director
The Supervisory Board of BASF Coatings
GmbH has appointed Thomas Hartmann
managing director and industrial relations director of BASF Coatings GmbH.
He succeeds Eva Müller who will assume
a new position within the BASF Group.
In addition to his new role, Hartmann
will continue to be global head of human
resources at BASF Coatings. Hartmann
joined the BASF Group in 1993 and
worked at BASF’s headquarters in
Ludwigshafen before taking on the management of human resources at BASF
Coatings in April 2009.
Superior Materials Adds to
Sales Team
Superior Materials, Inc. with headquarters in Garden City, NY, an established
specialty chemical distributor/agent has
added Michele Knox to its sales and marketing team. Knox has recently joined
Superior Materials in the role of New
England market manager. She will be responsible for the New England territory,
and will concentrate in the paint, coatings, plastics, ink, adhesive and personal
care markets. She previously worked for
Ashland Distribution and has been a
member of the New England Chemical
Club and the Society of Cosmetic
Chemists.
JNS Smithchem Appoints
Regional Sales Manager
JNS Smithchem LLC, has appointed
Audrey Gigliotti to the position of re-
gional sales manager. She will be respon-
sible for growing the company’s customer
and supplier base in Connecticut, Western
Massachusetts, Vermont and portions of
New York State.
Gigliotti came to JNS-Smithchem
from Nexeo where she served as regional
sales manager. Prior to that she was an account manager and technical service representative with Chemtura Middlebury,
CT where she specialized in urethane
formulations and coatings. She has presented several papers on urethane coatings technology and worked extensively
with urethane processing equipment.
PolyOne Makes Executive
Change
PolyOne Corporation has hired Michael
A. Garratt as senior vice president,
president of Performance Products and
Solutions. Garratt replaces Robert M.
Rosenau, who has decided to retire following an exemplary 37-year career.
With more than 20 years of experience
in the specialty polymer sector, Garratt
joins PolyOne from Marmon Utility, a
Berkshire Hathaway company, where
he served as president. Prior to joining
Marmon, he served as chief operating
officer of Excel Polymers, where he led
a successful business turnaround, resulting in improvements in revenue and
profitability.
Just Jansz Appointed to
Genomatica Board
Genomatica has added Just Jansz to
its Board of Directors. Jansz has thirty
years of international experience as an
accomplished senior executive in the
chemical industry with leaders such as
LyondellBasell and Shell.
Jansz is a former president of technol-
ogy at Basell and LyondellBasell and has
led one of the most successful and largest
global licensing and catalyst businesses
from 2004 to 2010. For many years he
has been involved in commercializing in-
novative technologies and the subsequent
monetizing of intellectual property, in-
cluding licensing, partnerships and the
identification and establishment of new
ventures.
He is the founder and director of

business and technology consultancy for
the chemical, process and materials industries with broad and diverse global
