Rodman J. Zilenziger,
Founder, Rodman Media, Dies
Rodman J. Zilenziger, the founder of
Rodman Publishing Corporation (now,
Rodman Media Corporation), died on
Feb. 2, 2014. He was 85. In 1964, while
serving as vice president of sales for
Dorland Publishing, Mr. Zilenziger co-launched Detergent Age, which would
ultimately be renamed Household And
Personal Products Industry (HAPPI), the
leading business-to-business trade magazine in the global household and personal
care space. He followed that success up
in 1970 with the launch of Nonwovens
Industry, the No. 1 magazine in the global
nonwovens industry. He created Rodman
Publishing Corp. in 1978 and went on to
launch other B-to-B titles over the years
before retiring in 1993.
Born Oct. 10, 1928 in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, his family settled in Bala
Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. Mr. Zilenziger
was also a graduate of Pennsylvania
Military College (PMC) as well as having
served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Korean
War in the 2nd infantry regiment and
received the Bronze Star. Mr. Zilenziger
married Roxane Shugart Zilenziger who
passed away in 2010. They were married for 53 years and were long-time residents of Scarsdale, NY and Vero Beach,
FL. They held memberships in the Fox
Meadow Tennis Club of Scarsdale, New
York, the Shenorock Shore Club of Rye,
New York, as well as The Moorings Club
of VeroBeach, Florida where they enjoyed playing tennis, platform tennis, and
golf. Mr. Zilenziger was also a member
of the Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in
Scarsdale, New York and was a volunteer
fireman in Scarsdale for many years.
Survived by his three children; Gaye
Geiger (Scott), of New Canaan, CT.,
Susan Maier (Rich) of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ,
and Rodman Zilenziger Jr. (Jennifer) also
of Ho-Ho-Kus, and 11 grandchildren:
Daniel, Sarah, Caitlin, Taylor, Rodman,
Lindsay, Kevin, James, Claire, Katherine
and Anna. Donations to the National
Parkinson’s Foundation are welcome.
BASF Wins SGM’s
Technological Progress
Award for Outstanding
Contributions
BASF was honored with the Technological
Progress Award from Shanghai General
Motors Company Ltd. (SGM) for the
first time. The award recognized BASF’s
outstanding contributions to the techno-
logical progress and local innovation of
SGM in 2013. BASF is the only chemical
company in the year to have won the
award from SGM. The new Buick Riviera
concept car, developed by SGM-PATAC
won the Red Dot Award in 2013, dem-
onstrating strong automotive design
competency in China. This concept car
featured a unique Ice Cyan-jade coat-
ing co-developed by BASF and PATAC.
In December 2013, BASF and PATAC
signed a memorandum of understanding
on technical cooperation. CW
