PPG Introduces P190-6930
Performance Clearcoat
PPG Industries’ automotive refinish business has launched P190-6930
Performance Clearcoat. The new 2.1
clearcoat is intended specifically for
use with waterborne AQUABASE Plus
basecoat by PPG. It is designed for
high-production collision centers and
provides excellent throughput and impressive gloss retention. P190-6930 features PPG’s innovative resin technology
engineered for waterborne basecoats,
making it the appropriate solution for
shops seeking a low-VOC production
clear. Used with Aquabase Plus basecoat,
a vital part of the NEXA AUTOCOLOR
refinish system by PPG, P190-6930 delivers the high-quality results and efficient cycle-time performance progressive
collision centers require.
“PPG is very pleased to offer our
customers this advanced low-VOC
clearcoat,” said Tim Jones, PPG water-
borne segment manager. “P190-6930 is
exactly what collision centers want in a
performance clearcoat: It’s easy to apply,
it enhances productivity and it consistent-
ly provides an outstanding finish. Paint
technicians will be able to take great
pride in their work and will appreciate
how reliably this clear performs.”
P190-6930 enhances throughput with
quick air-dry and bake cycle times— 4
hours and 25 minutes respectively—that
result in superior finish hardness. With
four reducer options, the clearcoat adapts
to a wide range of operating temperature
and humidity conditions. In addition, it
can be buffed in less than one hour after
cooldown if required. The result is excel-
lent gloss retention and finish.
Henkel Unveils First Hybrid
Adhesive
Henkel has introduced Loctite 4090,
an innovative hybrid adhesive that
combines the key features of structural
and instant adhesives - bond strength
and speed. This powerful combination
provides high impact resistance, high
strength bonding on a variety of sub-
strates, and high temperature resistance,
making it versatile enough to solve a
wide range of design and assembly chal-
lenges, the company stated.
Loctite 4090 adhesive greatly expands
the capabilities of traditional adhesives
and opens the door to new applications
and new solutions. This is the first hybrid adhesive that delivers the speed of
a cyanoacrylate and the strength of an
epoxy. Loctite 4090 Hybrid Adhesive offers high quality performance in extreme
environments and challenging conditions.
Its features and benefits include temperature resistance up to 150 degrees Celsius,
high impact and vibration resistance,
high moisture resistance, and gap filling
up to 5mm. It is well-suited for bonding
a variety of substrates, including metals,
most plastics and rubbers. This product is available as a 50ml cartridge in a
carton with five mix nozzles. It should
be dispensed with the standard Loctite
50ml Dual Cartridge Manual Applicator,
which must be ordered separately.
Sherwin-Williams Launches
Fast-Curing Powder
Coating System for MDF
Applications
Sherwin-Williams has announced the
availability of Powdura Sprint, a low-cure polyester resin-based powder coating system for use on medium density
fiberboard (MDF). Ideal for finishing applications in the furniture, kitchen cabinet and general finishing markets, the
coating system provides a high quality
finish as it cures at temperatures as low
as 250˚F. Powdura Sprint requires fewer
coats than competitive powder coating
products, increasing line speed by up to
40 percent. The new finish also has excellent performance properties in stain
and moisture resistance and offers an
effective cost alternative to traditional
liquid and laminate coatings, according
to the company.
Available in a wide range of solid col-
ors as well as smooth and texture finishes,
Powdura Sprint meets Kitchen Cabinet
Manufacturing Association (KCMA) and
American National Standards
Institute (ANSI) standards as
well as several manufacturers’
performance specifications.
“Powdura Sprint saves manufacturers time and money while producing a
quality finish on engineered wood substrates,” said Laura Kelleher, VP global
Mmarketing. “It offers manufacturers
of MDF-based products an attractive
alternative to traditional finishes while
delivering higher performance levels than
competitive powder coating offerings.”
Launches DURANAR ADS
Coatings for Architectural
Metals
PPG Industries’ coil and building
products coatings group has launched
DURANAR ADS (air-dried system) fluo-ropolymer coating, a newly-formulated
product that surpasses the performance
of the original Duranar ADS coating, the
company stated.
The next-generation Duranar ADS
coating, designed for touching up fluo-ropolymer finishes on architectural metals damaged during production or after
field installation, is based on KYNAR
ADS2 fluorinated copolymer resin by
Arkema and PPG proprietary chemistry.
It is available in a wide range of solid,
metallic and pearlescent colors and in
PPG’s infrared-reflective (IR-reflective)
pigment technology.
Brian Knapp, PPG manager, coil and
building products coatings, said PPG
is committed to helping metal building
product manufacturers fill a need that is
currently unaddressed in the marketplace.
“The new coating technology, developed in partnership by PPG and Arkema,
represents a significant advance in our
industry because it dramatically expands
customers’ ability to solve a problem they
commonly face in the field,” he explained.
Because of its single-component formulation, PPG’s Duranar ADS coating
has the flexibility to be applied by fingernail brush for small touch-ups at the
end of a production line, or to be spray-applied. It is ideal for use on window
frames, door frames, roofs and metal
wall panels marred during fabrication
or installation. CW
