As we embark on the new year, I’d like to thank Ryder’s customers, employees
and partners for 75 years of supply chain excellence.
Ryder’s transportation roots trace back to the days of the Great Depression in
1933, when Jim Ryder made a $35 down payment on a used 1931 Ford Model A
truck to haul concrete.
Since then, we’ve grown with our customers, witnessing all kinds of

were those in 2008.
Last year’s fuel crisis drove organizations to re-evaluate their carbon footprint,
their sourcing destinations, and how they move goods throughout the supply
chain. The current liquidity crisis has raised the cost of capital and places a
premium on assets tied up in the supply chain. The erratic behavior of gas prices
and interest rates make one thing very clear: Supply Chain excellence is more
important than ever.
Visibility, consistent execution and continuously eliminating waste are critical
elements of a demand-based supply chain. At Ryder, we’re able to translate
predictable operations and early warning of problems into solution designs with
less inventory and faster order-to-delivery times.
We’re also seeing a resurgence in green initiatives, despite the temptation to
revert to old ways as the pressure eases at the pump. I’m proud to say our
environmental program is deeply integrated into our own operations, as well as

program, waste reduction and storage tank management to emergency spill
response program and extensive facility audits.
The year ahead will surely pose new, yet unanticipated
business challenges. We’re driven by the opportunity
to create new solutions – and deliver the supply chain
