Conveyor resources: The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) is accepting
presale orders for the first edition of the CEMA Application Guide for Unit Handling Conveyors.
The book, which was created through the collaboration of some of the most respected companies in the industry, is designed to serve as a reference for both novice and experienced engineers, universities, distributors, OEMs, consultants, maintenance personnel, and end-users of unit
handling conveyors. It offers an in-depth guide to design details and offers applications guidance
for all types of unit handling conveyors, including pallet, carton, and monorail conveying units.
The book’s regular price is $250 for non-members, but the discounted early bird rate of $200
per book (less in quantity) is available until Jan. 30.
CEMA also offers other products, including safety labels for all types of conveyor equipment
and technical manuals. For example, CEMA has available for purchase (in both CD and hard
copy) the second printing of Conveyors for Bulk Materials 6th Edition - “The Belt Book.” This book
is an authoritative technical manual for bulk belt conveyor design. (CEMA, (239) 514-3441,

Fill ’er up: Battery Filling Systems introduces the low-profile series watering system. The new clip-in Low Profile Plug is 11 mm shorter than traditional plugs,
which drastically reduces the wear and tear on a watering system. Because the
system is designed with encapsulated floats, the snap-in float guards are now
completely eliminated. The encapsulated plug protects the float, ensuring that the
proper water levels are reached during each watering.
Battery Filling Systems’ new Low Profile Plug is constructed of high-quality materials that continue to keep all working parts above the battery cell. The Low Profile
Plug works with high or low pressure. It features a hydrometer port and a built-in
water level indicator. The new clip-in design makes installation of systems easier.
The system still maintains precise electrolyte levels and has a water trap to prevent dangerous
hydrogen gas movement from cell to cell. (Battery Filling Systems, www.batteryfillingsystems.com)
Putting the cart before the force: Kinetic Technologies presents its ProFlow series of carts
designed for lean material handling in warehouses and distribution centers. The low-maintenance
cart features a welded-steel multi-panel deck, extra safety features, replaceable parts, and a two-year warranty, which combine to reduce the total cost of ownership. Using these carts to move
loads manually or to tug trains of heavy boxes and pallets (instead of employing forklifts for the
moves) results in less noise, lower overall emissions, and less energy usage, which contribute to
a more environmentally friendly workplace.
The ProFlow carts are available in capacities of up to 2,000 pounds, with deck sizes of up to
48 by 96 inches. (Kinetic Technologies Inc., www.ktecinc.com)

Heavy duty on demand: Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. unveils its new line of large IC pneumatic lift trucks. These vehicles are designed for demanding applications, such as lifting heavy
bulk items and materials in facilities and within yards. Toyota offers six models to choose from in
22,000- to 35,000-pound capacities at a 24-inch load center.
The product line is equipped with a powerful 6.7-liter J-Series Hino diesel engine. Hino, a Toyota
Group company, provides engines that are small in size and are lightweight, but perform with high
output, low fuel consumption, low emissions, and low vibration. The trucks in the new line also
feature a number of ergonomic and safety features to enhance operation and performance.
The two-speed transmission provides optimal performance comparable to industry standard
three-speed transmissions, with the added benefit of a smoother operation due to fewer shift
changes. This transmission also requires less maintenance than a comparable three-speed transmission, according to the company. In addition, it is designed to handle more torque and contains fewer parts to service.
Toyota’s large IC pneumatic lift trucks offer fully oiled lift cylinders, which are extremely durable
in harsh environments and help prevent the cylinders from rusting.
Wet disc brakes are standard and operate under the most severe work conditions. Toyota’s wet
disc brakes also help maximize operating performance by reducing maintenance costs and
improving vehicle safety.
Toyota’s synchronized steering option enhances operator comfort by automatically correcting misalignment between the angle of the steering wheel and turn angle of the steer tires. This system
maintains a consistent steering wheel position for improved hand placement during operation.
