Transportation management system: Software solutions provider LeanLogistics has enhanced its transportation management
system Lean TMS with the addition of LeanFleet, a tool designed to
streamline fleet planning and execution.
LeanFleet allows shippers to manage their private fleet and contract carriers on the same platform, providing visibility across the
entire transportation network. Shippers can optimize fleet routes,
reduce empty miles, and maximize the use of their assets.
The LeanFleet system automates the assignment of drivers to
trucks based on a scoring algorithm that evaluates information
such as the driver’s current location, personal calendar, and hours
of service. Shippers can integrate their telematics into the TMS to
leverage their investment by utilizing its features in one workflow.
They can receive updates on a driver’s arrival and departure based
on their geo-fence, transmit load details, and communicate with the
driver via messaging, all from the TMS.
The LeanFleet system can also optimize fleet routes by analyzing
the business needs of the day to determine the effectiveness of each
route and identify cost-saving opportunities.
LeanFleet will offer a wide variety of analytics to better measure
and report on fleet performance. Once connected to LeanTMS,
users can obtain real-time insights generated by the LeanLogistics
Transportation Network that will drive both fleet efficiencies and
actionable intelligence. (LeanLogistics, www.leanlogistics.com)
Labeling solution: High-volume distribution centers moving variable-sized packages and parcels often face a bottleneck at
the label applicator. Bell and Howell has
unveiled its Raptor series labeling solution to
address this critical area. The system’s high
throughput and easy label roll changeover
can reduce the number of labelers needed
and increase the performance of a production line currently limited by traditional
labelers.
The Raptor series improves upon the throughput, reliability, and
ease of use of Bell and Howell’s signature series labeling solution,
which, itself, was one of the fastest solutions in the industry when
it was introduced three years ago. Raptor labelers apply a six-inch
label to cartons that vary up to 36 inches in height at a rate of up
to 70 packages per minute. The company says the liner-free label
technology delivers 80 percent more labels per roll compared with
traditional labelers, minimizing roll changeover and reducing waste.
Variable-length labels are produced dynamically by a single unit,
eliminating the need for dedicated systems for each label size.
The labeler achieves a print speed of 14 inches per second with
ANSI grade A/B bar codes for typical labels and readily integrates
with external systems to retrieve label data, perform high-speed
tracking, and perform intelligent exception handling. (Bell and

WMS solution: Fascor Inc. has added to its line of warehouse
management system solutions with the release of the Fascor Web
Tools. Web Tools is a Web/cloud-based application that integrates
with Microsoft Dynamics GP and other enterprise resource planning
systems to monitor activity and provide real-time updates, alerts,
and control to warehouse operations. The result is a new level of
responsiveness based on the most accurate and up-to-date information. (Fascor, www.fascor.com)
