Ross Dual-Shaft Mixers deliver an ideal balance of bulk flow agitation and
high speed dispersion required in the
processing of viscous pastes, gels, suspensions, slurries and emulsions. These
machines feature two independently-driven agitators than run at different speeds, imparting varying levels of
shear and ensuring adequate turnover
over a wide viscosity range. Production
models are offered in many standard
sizes up to 4000 gallons capacity.
Pictured is a Dual-Shaft Mixer Model
CDA-500 with a maximum working capacity of 500 gallons. An air/oil hydraulic lift
raises/lowers the agitators from/into the mix
can. NEMA 12 safety limit switches prevent
operation of the drives when the mix vessel or agitators are not
in the proper
position. All
product-con-tact parts are

heavy-duty
Two-Wing Anchor Agitator and dual-blade
High Speed Disperser are driven by 10HP
and 100HP inverter-duty motors, respectively. Hinged Teflon scrapers are attached to
the anchor for wiping of the vessel sidewall
and dished bottom. A tungsten carbide coating on the saw-tooth disperser blades allows
the mixer to be used with abrasive materials.
The custom mixer cover includes appropriate connections for ingredient addition,
dust collection and a delumping device. A
thermowell with type “J” thermoprobe is
also mounted through the cover. A 50-psig
stainless steel two-zone dimpled jacket enables heating/cooling of the product. The
flush tank ball valve mounted on the vessel’s bottom front features a 150# ANSI
flange outlet connection, pneumatic actuator and air-powered open/close controls.
The vessel is mounted on three legs suitable
for use with load cells.

includes a 10” color HMI touchscreen
for controlling speed, load and product temperature, as well as saving up
to 10 recipes.
New Monol Oligomer
Technology Expands
Applications for Cray
Valley’s Krasol Additives
Cray Valley has introduced Krasol LBH
5000M, the newest addition to its portfolio of liquid polybutadiene additives.
The mono-hydroxyl functional oligomer (monol) is a versatile additive that
supports new applications for reactive
polybutadienes. The monol can also be
hydrogenated to produce a clear liquid
(Krasol HLBH 5000M).
As a long-chain alcohol (C250), the
monol retains resistance to acids and bases in harsh environments, is hydrolytically
stable and is compatible with hydrocarbons. In composite systems the oligomeric
chain can promote surface modification
and adhesion, as well as hydrophobicity or
rheological modification. Krasol is compatible with many substrates, including
polyolefins. Krasol monols can be further
modified for use as macromonomers, surfactants, compatibilizers, fluid additives
and other value applications.
Cray Valley’s Krasol products are lin-
ear diols. The products are typically used
in performance urethane applications that
require excellent hydrolytic stability and
chemical resistance. Commercial Krasol
products are produced with a molecular
weight range of 2,000-5,000 g/mol, contain
65 percent vinyl content, and have a glass
transition temperature of approximately
-45 °C. Cray Valley is continuing to devel-
op additional variants of the monol, which
will create new technologies with various
molecular weights and alternative uses with
unsaturated or fully saturated backbones.
Umetrics Launches SIMCA-
Online 13.2
Umetrics has released version 13.2 of
SIMCA-online, a Windows-based software
solution, for multivariate process monitoring and predictions for continuous and batch
processes. This latest release includes key
features which continue to strengthen the
capabilities of SIMCA-online including
full visualization capability on portable
devices such as tablets and smart phones
and web browser visualization. Also new
in version 13.2 is the ability to capture
low frequency data at varying sampling
times during batch evolution. In addition, interfaces for SIMCA-online have
been certified for compliance by the OPC
Foundation as the first and only multivariate software on the market.
WACKER Launches
VINNAPAS CA 55 VAE
Dispersion
The WACKER Group has developed a
new dispersion based on vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymers (VAE) especially
for the European carpet market. With
VINNAPAS CA 55 as a binder, it is possible to formulate both precoats and secondary coatings to bond the backings of
tufted carpets used as broadloom carpets
in residential as well as in commercial
buildings. The new VAE dispersion features low emission values, reduced odor
and increased flame retardant properties
and can replace traditionally used latex
binders based on styrene-butadiene (SB).
VINNAPAS CA 55 is an aqueous dispersion based on vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymers with a mid-range glass transition
temperature. The new product offers excellent bonding and processing properties
for tufted carpets. The dispersion supports
the European standards and technical requirements for tufted carpets, including
tuft bind and delamination properties. CW
